These were on those POS stands by the registers, and the display did it's job, the box came home with me.  Overall, I give these a very low rating, maybe a one or a two. The ratio of filling to crust and topping was very low, could barely taste it. However, the overwhelming taste of sugar was front and center. It's a sugar bomb, not a flavor bomb.  👎

I note the box appears empty…with that review, I’d have returned them!

I think a low filling to crust ratio is par for the course with a very small pie so I wasn’t surprised and thought they were OK.  Probably wouldn’t eat one on its own but warmed up, with an equally tiny scoop of ice cream, they made a nice little dessert.

Tried a couple of these at the sample kiosk and liked them. The wrapper was nice and crisp, appropriately cheesy, and the pups inside had a nice balance of fat and salt. Better than junk food, but not quite a real dinner. I think that what I like most about these is their balance.

Tamales are such a crap shoot. When I find good ones, I like them a lot. The last time I was at a Trader Joe's I looked for the pork and red sauce tamales that I'd liked so much. No dice. So I tried these:

Meh. Bland. Even the masa seemed to lack the flavor of really good masa. The green chile had some heat but none of the green flavor I expect from green chiles.

Here's an attempt to show the melty cheese and chiles inside.

After shooting the photos I gussied these up with salsa and sour cream, to give them a bit of oomph, but I won't buy them again.

Thanks for the info. I always wanted to try those. Haven't been to Trader Joes since Covid. I'm in Canada but sadly Trader Joe's is not. My next foray will likely be after the next election...

Welp. It's another bust, as far as I'm concerned.

I bought this with a mixture of misgivings and hope. On the plus side: citrus! garlic! chicken! easy cooking and disposal! On the misgivings side: black beans and plantain...not that I actively dislike either, but they aren't on my list of favorite flavors.

I'm sorry to report that the entire dish was on the gummy side. Did I simply overcook it, so the rice was overdone? I don't know. But I didn't especially like the plantains, and black beans are my least favorite of the legumes, and there was the gumminess of the overall dish. Any pleasure I might have gotten from the chicken and garlic was lost.

Oh, and I neglected to gussy it up with cilantro as shown in the box photo, even though I just came from the grocery store and have some fresh.

I ended up salting it, to drown out the sweetness of the plantains. I'm sure the sweetness would appeal to a lot of people, but it doesn't to me.

On the bright side: here's another dish I tried once, for not much money, and won't need to try again. And hey, cleanup is easy!
