I wouldn't use it for heavy tasks as it does look thinner than the rack. But, having said that, I'm assuming because it has more cross beams supporting it, the bend in it under my Le Creuset is about the same as the rack. It'd be great for steaming/roasting and I'd have no qualms about putting meat or vegetables directly on it. I doubt I'd have issues with a normal pan as compared to the rack either given the similar bend now that I think about it.

My big concern with racks of the "cross-hatch" design is the subsequent cleaning of baked on residue. Soaking does help as does using a brush, but I'll stick to the parallel rod design for easier cleanup.

Edit:  the racks that came with my oven have parallel wires.

psh, i’m down. honestly i cook (and pre-cook) most of our vegetables in the microwave. fast, easy, like steaming but much quicker. as long as you don’t really over heat, it’s great. we have space for it so i’d never personally give up the microwave.

OK then

 

Can you run the ASO in the same way one an run the CSO :

 

directly from the ovens controls ?

 

ie   45 min , steam-bake , 400 F       etc

Yep, but apparently some settings are absent (like detailed selection of burners activated, fan speed)

 

Remind me, what devices do you have besides an ipod? ;-) You could probably run the app in an Android emulator, which I have used on a Windows PC.

Im on an iMac , w an ethernet cable  connection to the the FiOS

 

box in the basement.

 

i have a number of WiFi gizmos from Verizon in boxes

 

but have no interest in the extreme  

 

of ever setting any of them up.

 

its just me , I know.

 

Iv used the iPod in the past when out and about

 

to take an occasional picture.

 

in the previous Era..

 

Iv nothing against WiFi   over all

 

byt its just too insidious for my tastes

Well it is possible there is an iOS emulator for iMac... but I guess the oven doesn't have an ethernet jack, sadly.

If it makes you feel better, there are lots of ways to strengthen wi-fi privacy/security provisions, if one likes tinkering. But it's ok not to like tinkering. :wink:

i used to Tinker , a lot.

 

I do use an App on my iMac called Little Snitch.

 

you would be surprised the bazillion places that want to connect

 

to the iMac.   a few  even when there are no apps or browsers open.

of course :  it has options to

 

1) Allow a specific connection

 

2) ask about a specific connection

 

3) deny a specific connection

 

any or all for a specific application , for a specific time period 

 

or ' until app closed '

 

at least Id know how many times Anova was doing this or doing that.

 

which is the idea of the app

Long time lurker here ( This might be the first post....:-O), Did anyone figure out what they used for a baking steel in the Bread video?

It looks like a lodge griddle but I dont know.

 

Apologies if this was already figured out earlier.

I received my new 1/4 inch baking steel.  No energy to clean it up right now or try it.  Hopefully it's weight will not overwhelm the oven racks.  Sorry, no picture.  I regret I've been photonically challenged the past few weeks.  Can't wait to assay bread in the APO.

My order (made during the first round) still shows that it is "processing" so no FedEx notice.

 

I will try to practice patience and learn from you all.
