What Beers Did You Drink Today? Or Yesterday? (Part 3)

Due those incorrigible enablers, @C. sapidus and @Smithy 😂, I found myself splashing out on a six-pack of the black stuff. Guinness is barely known here and, outside of Beijing and Shanghai impossible to find on draught. Not even much there. Hong Kong is a much better bet. 

 

All I can get here is the canned, low 4.2 ABV version, imported from Dublin.  Still. Better than no Guinness. It costs around $1 USD per can which isn't bad but twice the price of local beers.

 

 

 

It's  not very clear, but so little-known is it, they feel the need to give instructions on the can on how to chill it, pour it and drink it! Those I don't need!

Last night I had my first Chimay Green Strong Blond Ale.

My new favorite.  Wonderful as long you can forget about the price.  A quart of Ortlieb's (I grew up in Philadelphia) used to go for 35 cents.  Four little bottles of Chimay Green are closer to 35 dollars.

@JoNorvelleWalker Chimay is good stuff but that price is nuts.  Joe Ortleib is twirling in his grave ;-).  I drank a lot of Schmidts and Valley Forge back then.  I'm too young to have drunk Esslinger's or Hohenadle's.

 

I just had a couple DogfishHead 60 minute IPA. Nice.

I tried this new to me Blond Ale which came in a 750ml at a very surprising low price.   I found it delicious, my tastes run primarily to strong Belgian styles.

My son loves Dogfish.  Schmidts makes me gag.  I was once at a trade show in the old convention center.  There was a beer vendor with an Ortlieb's tap.  I should have thrown the Schmidts he sold me in his face.

Schmidt's was, as we termed it, weasel piss whiz.  Even worse when warmed-up at a Phillies game.

Didn't Guinness used to have some sort of CO2 generator in its cans that fizzed it up upon opening?

They still do here, at least. And yes nitrogen; not CO2.

 

Did anyone else experience the cans that came with a syringe to inject the nitrogen? I think they were only sold in Ireland.

Drinking up my last batch of IPA. Not as good as the previous batch because I dry hopped the first one. It is a bit under-carbonated, maybe I calculated the sugar incorrectly, maybe because the pantry is cold in the winter. Still quite drinkable.

Yeah, I noticed that the price really didn't change that much in the last 4-5 years.   It was always the premium tap.
