Hand mixer with a truly low low speed

My current (Cuisinart) hand mixer is quite powerful which can be a good thing but it's lowest speed is more what I would consider medium speed and tends to fling things out of a bowl when one first starts mixing. I have searched for "slow start" mixer, "gardual start" mixer but haven't found one that specifically addresses this issue. I'm sure I read about one not too long ago. Any suggestions?

I can recommend one you shouldn't get and that is a Breville.  I'm fond of their other products i have, but not this one.  On it's slowest speed, it thinks it's a gazelle.

Haha - sounds like mine. I told my husband that I'm pretty sure he could dig post holes with it!

You may try one of the two below, gives you from 0 RPM to full speed:

1. If you have an incandescent light dimmer switch, plug in your mixer. (less than 300 Watts)

2. Get a PWM (Paulse Width Modulated) motor speed controller. (can be 1000 watts)

I went through this a couple of years ago when my ancient one bit the dust. I tried 3 different ones until I finally found this one that has super low speed. I'm not that wild about the beaters on it (I prefer the old-fashioned type.), but they actually do seem to work fine on everything I've tried. Braun MultiMix (eG-friendly Amazon.com link)

Ya - try that with arthritic wrists. You're not wrong but I need some mechanical help these days.
