The texture changes , but many times for a different better .

Yes, exactly. In this case the edges are slightly crunchy, as though it were toasted, but the flavor is unchanged. I can see why you'd feel the same way about cornbread.

I still haven't tried making French toast with the panettone, and I doubt I'll bother. It doesn't need any help in the flavor or richness department. (Well, I do like a bit of butter melting into it, as my photo shows. But I liked it that way from the beginning.)

Guess what came in the mail yesterday from Goûter! Thank you @Kerry Beal.

Sorry that I couldn't wait to take a picture.

The fruit is semi-dehydrated strawberries; not sure what the icing is. Inside more strawberries and no chocolate. I'm not sure if there are raisins on the inside. Obviously, more research is required!

@TdeV I too have a strawberry one currently residing in the freezer.  I haven't cut into it yet, need to finish the chocolate and fruit one first.  I'll be curious to hear how you like it.

@ElsieD, yum, yum, yum, yum!

I do think this one is sweeter than the chocolate one.  I.e. I eat less of it in a session.

That may be a good thing (for my diet), but less so (for my taste buds).

@rotuts might know. Or at least have good advice. 😁 🤣

I still have one regular left unopened.

@TdeV

interesting points.   Im sure sweetness has been studied as an inducement to eat more

after all , sugar , salt and fat are the three major food groups , and used in industrial proportions for profit:

' beer nuts '  are both salty and sweet and they have plenty opf fat in them.

but I have no idea if everyone eats less of something if its sweet .

I dont have a ' sweet tooth '    but Ill have seconds even thirds of a cake w a serious layer of frosting .

@Alleguede has been making panettone for the last couple of weeks -

- I get text reports pretty much every day - 'my madre is beautiful' - ' I love my new spiral mixer' - 'look at this'

This year he will be making the traditional and the 3 chocolate versions. He's actually organized to ship to the US now so feel free to send me a PM if you want his contact info.

Bumping this up to see if anyone's planning on panettone purchases again this year. I chose this photo series because it's what really pulled me into the splurge. Maybe @Alleguede or @Kerry Beal can tell me whether gouter.ca is making them.

This year my only panettone purchase was from Whole Foods.  Sad.

Panettone has never appealed to me. But I'm watching a Jamie Oliver Christmas special where he used panettone to make a bread pudding that sounded pretty good

Yes, I'm planning to order panettone from @Alleguede. Has become a delicious annual tradition. Hoping that Gouter is still able to ship to the United States.

Let us know what you find out. I know a lot of shippers have stopped accepting packages for the US.
The apple pie version is calling my name but it says the last day to preorder is tomorrow,

somewhere in one of the cooking forums, , , was a video of as bloke 'evaluating' various readily available panettone in USA.

he opined that Maina topped the list.  I got mine off Amazon, arrived last week . . .

the Maina brand sells out quickly on Amazon - no can say if that's marketing or 'really good stuff' . . .

Sorry, not going to get to it this weekend but if you email Gouter they will reply. Wouldn't want you to miss out on the apple pie panettone.
