A bunch of kale salad kids sold under the Curation Foods and Eat Smart brand names are being recalled for listeria. Currently listed by the CFIA as "Ontario, possibly national," so if you buy 'em it would be good to check the date codes.

It's apparent from the long list of recalls over the past years, that the majority of them are in partly or completely "prepared" foods...foods that scratch cooks don't usually buy.  Families with two working parents would buy these foods to "save" time and energy.

Apologies if I've posted this before---(newbie navigation issues). I get the FDA e-mails. But also use FSN, FoodSafetyNews. They follow re-calls but also the investigations and follow-ups. A bit more global. Investigations ahead of any re-call.

The chicken and shrimp has been disturbing being a cooked product used in institutions for cold salads and maybe a shrimp cocktail. Most being served meals are already in hospice or elder care or hospitals. Weakened immune systems.

Thankfully my MIL moved in with my SIL the week into NYC lock-down. (they are in SCarolina). She was happily in a semi-retired elder community but would, and did, become in a not so safe environment---lockdown isolated. Instead they created a nice family bubble with close family.

FSN takes the personal digging/searching out of the process---or a bit easier. A header with 're-calls' and another for 'investigations'.

Okay, this is an unusual one. The CFIA is warning that shredded pork skin sold to Asian (mostly Vietnamese) restaurants in the GTA has been identified as the source of an outbreak of salmonellosis. Details (such as they are) at the link.

Olivera brand sliced olives, for potential botulism. This one is (currently) Quebec only, and I don't *think* we currently have any active eG'ers there, but...it's botulism. So I'll post it just in case.

Sorry for the (almost) double post:

Another recall that's made the news...

"Maple Island Inc. Issues a Voluntary Recall of Three Lots of Parent’s Choice Rice Baby Cereal"

Quote

Maple Island Inc. has issued a voluntary recall of three lots of its Parent’s Choice Rice Baby Cereal that it manufactures for Walmart. This recall is a result of a routine sampling program by the FDA which found that a sample from three production lots of Parent’s Choice Rice Baby Cereal tested above the guidance for naturally occurring inorganic arsenic.

Impacted products are listed in the article.
