I wouldn't worry about you adding oyster mushrooms to beef and broccoli being 'inauthentic'. Beef and broccoli isn't 'authentically' Chinese anyway!

How nice! In my area, the fire dept will send the paramedics out for free, but if you need transport to the hospital, they summon a private, for profit ambulance. It costs beaucoup bucks. Some insurance says it’s covered, others, not so much!
-
@Margaret Pilgrim I have so much empathy. If it helps next time try taking an ambulance rather than a cab. When I bloodied myself last fall I took an ambulance. At least around here the ambulance is free.
-
I am quite impressed at how quickly you were treated and safely back home. Did you call another cab for the return trip or did you just ask them to wait 🙃? I’m curious what, if anything your cab driver(s) had to say, or was your blood streaked robe even noticed? Cabs are spotty in these parts of SoCal suburbia but Uber and Lyft are around. As someone who lives alone, I’ve often wondered if they’d take me to the local hospital or pick me up there. Of course I’d call the paramedics for anything life-threatening but what if the situation was only marginally dramatic, like a blood streaked bathrobe? Hopefully I won’t find out soon!

looking at your pile of cut-offs, I'd say you have more experience in the topic than any of us!

I've seen a few too many social media posts of people doing hideous things with hotel room appliances to use them anymore.

As long as you weren’t stark nekkid, I’m sure you’d have been better dressed than anyone else you encountered in the wee hours! If they sent up coffee packets, I’m sure there would be no filters…or no cups…or… When I traveled a lot for work, I kept a ziplock that tucked neatly between the handle rails of my carry-on with tea bags, oatmeal, single-serving pucks of peanut butter and jam (hoarded from my work cafeterias) some of those Wasa crackers sure to survive a nuclear attack, prunes - almost as durable (and yes, as effective as the Wasa), plastic utensils, several folded paper towels, wet wipes, etc. It got me through a LOT of unexpectedly late arrivals when I needed to be at work very early! Those in-room coffee makers always gave me pause though. If I wanted to use them for hot water, I always ran 3 cycles of water through to get rid of the stale coffee smell. I think you were likely saved by the ineptness of this operation!

@AlaMoi...first... I wasn't questioning your worthyness...but. I did and wonder...if u were to cure a full log first then. Cut .you could...for go that splitting...btw...what did u seal those with...B -
I posted this story as a ludicrous vignette, an old woman, cabbing to the ER in a bloodstreaked bathrobe near midnight in a pea soup fog. Greeted by late dog walkers, and a few neighbors all of whom acted. as if this were quite normal. Of course this is San Francisco so maybe it is.

No, Darienne, in recent months, perhaps years you have been living under a plague equalling Job’s. My complaints are in no way a comparison.
-
Again I am with you. I too have lived relatively unscathed for lo these many decades...but I've made up for it in major quibbles this last year and a half.
-
Wot larks indeed! It’s only my age that allows me any equilibrium. I have to concede that I have lived many decades, unscathed. Like Dorian Gray, A lot is coming home to roost. I have a few quibbles.
-
Count me in with this one. My arms look as if they had gone to war, but then most of them belong in the blown IV port category and difficult response to a PICC line (peripherally inserted central catheter), a response to blowing IV ports. Wot larks!
-
Totally understand . Do you have it under control and on the mend at this point?
-
Totally understand. I have so many bruises that I am always sequestered and grilled on any abuse situation I would like to discuss with them.
-
No heroic measures necessary. They just applied nonstick gauze and pressure and sealed me up, giving me enough supplies for the next day change of bandage. I ordered a slew of first aid products from Walmart yesterday which arrived today so I’m prepared for my next misadventure. FYI, and for what it’s worth, I have had no side effects from the blood thinners. Stabbing myself twice a day has been a bore but not painful.

I too suffer from thin skin, what I have recently learned is called senile purpura. I swear if a butterfly lands on me, I will get a nasty looking bruise, Medical terms can definitely lay you low - senile? I was 35 when our twins were born and I was listed on the charts as an "eldery primigravida,"

@Smithy, I have a tea stash for just this purpose. If you're interested, et me know where I should post my response.

I've been thinking about buying a Big Green Egg for about 10 years, I guess, my usual decision-making time for non-essential extravagances. The BGE is expensive, and a) will I like cooking on it and b) will I use it after the initial period anyway? I have enough cameras and guitars sulking around the house to be wary of jumping in. Even the cheaper BGE alternatives are expensive. But then, from the middle of Lidl: £80! $106 for our friends across the water! OK, the grill diameter is only 10 inches, but it was too tempting to pass. I've had it about 2 months, and never had a bad meal from it, although I've still not mastered the temperature control. Tonight's meal was lamb. I deboned a leg and kept interference to a minimum. Garlic, olive oil, salt and pepper, rosemary. Wrapped in foil then 130C- 170C for 4 hours. Fell apart with a couple of spoons: Served with store-bought Lebanese flatbread and some salad. Salad dressing was honey, lemon juice, olive oil The family loved it. This ceramic grill is too small to cater by itself for a much larger gathering. There were 6 of us eating today and there was easily enough for 10 people. The joint was 1.6kg before boning, so pretty substantial. I have a kettle grill and of course an indoor oven, plus an air fryer. So I don't need a BGE. Will I get one? I know how this ends...

Cooking with the A4 Box Induction Cooker: What'd you make?
Maison Rustique replied to a topic in Cooking
I finally remembered to take this over to the new house since I don't have cookware there yet. A few days ago I bought a package of the pork egg rolls at Aldi that I really like. (I hadn't taken this yet.) I nuked one for lunch while I was there and it was soggy and horrid. So, I brought "The Box" and I had one today that I heated in it. Put it on med/med hi, egg roll in, covered. I turned it several times. It wasn't quite as hot as I wanted it to be, but it was at least crispy and I had with some Aldi Thai Chili Dipping Sauce. Much better than the soggy mess the other day. Sorry, didn't think of taking pix since I was in a hurry. Just wanted to report that it worked just as desired. -
May I move in please. I'll sleep in the garden and keep the raccoons away
-
It does make the footprint smaller taking up less counter space - and I think it has a much more modern look - especially with the touchscreen as opposed to buttons... although that's just one more thing that might not last that long. Also, looking at the competitive countertop ovens, they all look similar, with the controls on top rather than the side.
