while searching for it on the internet I was sent to a wholesale page for items from China

It isn't Chinese.

I mean the kitchen tool isn't Chinese.

The site you link to is Chinese.

The only thing I can think of is that it would be handy to mark something into 6 portions.

It might, but they'd be small portions. The business end of the tool is only 41 mm at it's widest.

It sounds like it could be used for taking the core out of some kind of fruit or vegetable.

It's not got a blade so it has to be something soft. I would say lemon, plantain or kiwi fruit.

Sorry, no fruit involved.

No.

Interesting handle. Looks like a knife's handle. That's why I thought it is to be used horizontally.

@liuzhou, have you commented on @andiesenji's post about it being a sort of whisk or otherwise used for mixing?

The top one in her photo certainly looks similar in shape.

As I said in my opening post, it is not primarily a whisk, although it could be used as such. It has a very specific function.

it looks like it would be perfect to remove the marrow from bones, however, although it is small, they would have to be quite large bones. It would also work to tamp meat or something else into a grinder or shredder.

And does that function include stirring or mixing in some way?

I would say stirring is the secondary function.

You said it wasn't Chinese .  Otherwise my guess would have been to break up clumps of rice before serving it.  Far fetched I know.

I like that idea!  I figured it was an egg beater but since stirring is only a secondary function, it has to be something else.
