I’m currently on the train headed to our nation’s capital Ottawa to serve as an examiner for the College of Family Physicians. I think the last time I posted about one of these exams was when I went to Saskatoon. No wait - @Anna N and I went to London last year for one didn’t we.

Anna won’t be accompanying me this time I’m afraid so I’ll just have to find my own food.

My train is being met by @Beth Wilson - she has chosen a spot for dinner tonight - I’ll have to dig through my emails to see if I can find it and read up on it.

Canada’s federal election is happening on Monday so I guess Ottawa is going to be a buzz all weekend!

I know Kerry has had nothing to drink yet today that might muddy her mind, but it was in fact just this spring that we went to London! Wish I was going to Ottawa only because I love train rides. You can keep the capital and all it represents. I just want the train ride oh and maybe the meals!

Ouch!  I kinda like it here.  About the train - I too love the train.  When I was working and attending meetings in Toronto, others used to fly.  I always took the train.  When you factor in the time to the airport, arriving early for security and once in Toronto getting downtown, the train was almost as fast - and a lot more pleasant.  The food was pretty good too.

Notice VIA rail is still featuring treats made by this company - @Alleguede and did some consulting with them a few years back when they had purchased a very posh tempering and enrobing machine that was a lemon.

Tasty ?

how full is the train ?

How long does it take to get from the GTA to Ottawa.

I used to love to travel by rail , in Europe growing up

2 years in Spain and 2 years in France.

I once took the train from Toronto to Vancouver.  As I recall the food was pretty good.

Done that - coach seats - food was good I also recall - they threatened to throw us off the train. I’m better behaved now!

Lunch is served. Opted for the chicken salad instead of the  pasta with pea purée or  beef pot roast

😲

My dreams have been crushed.  Never been on a train.  Always imagined going into the dining car....a bar on one side....fancy tables on the other.....everyone dressed up...women wearing hats....

Now I find out it looks like an airplane.

We ended up across the river in Gatineau at Chez Fatima.

It made the most sense to have the buffet because it had all the dishes we might think of ordering.

Some of the best Moroccan food I've enjoyed in a long time. Lamb shanks with prune and chicken with lemon were my favorites. And the lamb kafka.

While we were waiting for the buffet to be set up we went to the SAQ (that's the Quebec govt liquor store). I bought the bottle of Avril - which is a chestnut liqueur as far as I can tell.

We hit the grocery store on the way home - grabbed some milk for my tea, some limes to accompany the G&T premixes I found at the SAQ.

So Kerry, where are you going for dinner?

And you can get up and walk around - the pictures don't really show how spacious things are.

Hard to believe that there is going to be a really really ugly addition put on to the Chateau Laurier much to the dismay of just about everyone in this city.
