Pistachios are back on Canadian governmental recalls this morning.  So I finally went to Mr. Google for more in-depth reporting on the endless announcements of salmonella carrying pistachios.  And it is indeed a continuing item on the news.

"As of early December 2025, 155 people have been reported sick with Salmonella linked to an outbreak involving pistachios and pistachio products in Canada, with 24 hospitalizations but no deaths, primarily affecting Ontario and Quebec, though the actual number is likely higher as not everyone seeks testing. The outbreak involves various brands from Iran and has led to multiple recalls, with people falling ill from March to November 2025. "

What I don't understand is why this continues on and on and on.  Why can't all pistachio items from Iran be pulled off the shelves?

I've just been skipping the endless updates on the pistachios, because at this point is anybody still buying them? This one is different, it's a brand of tahini/tahineh being recalled almost-nationally.

I made pistachio/cranberry biscotti for our local hospital's ER team. I've had the pistachios in the freezer for 6 months or so. Husband and I have sampled the biscotti with no ill effects.🤞

I don't think we currently have anyone in Alberta, but these were also sold online so... A mix of lunch-y products, brand name "inspiredgo," are being recalled for listeria.

Ya gotta wonder!!!  Life as a celiac person has must be fairly precarious.

And of course, in Canada, the contaminated pistachio debacle goes on and on and on and on.......

Yeah, I've long since stopped posting those.

But hey, for the first time in a while, we have a change of pace. Si Ji Mei brand Wuhan Egg Sheets with Glutinous Rice (that's a mouthful) are being recalled in BC and Alberta for salmonella.

The endlessness of it all sure gives one pause to think...

I fear for our friends Stateside, as the regulatory regime there is actively dismantled (I'll leave it at that, because it's a topic that's inherently political, and I can't get into it any further without violating board rules).

It’s surely concerning to read about these recalls and we surely want to see the causes addressed but, as with any sort of public safety monitoring, it would be a far greater concern if they completely ceased or dropped dramatically.

I share @chromedome’s concern.

I, for one, appreciate the reporting from the North.  Sometimes no news is not good news!
