My wife and I have also bought stuff from the Spice House and found it to be very high quality, just as with Penzey's.

I'm looking for a good, reliable online source for spices... as far as I know, there are no spice shops around where I live. (if anyone knows any around DC, that would be preferable)

I've been looking into www.thespicehouse.com

Does anyone have any experience with them? If not, are there any other good (relatively inexpensive) online vendors I should look into? Thanks!

I live in a remote area and suffer the same problem. I discovered Penzeys Spices when I was in Wisconsin and they are phenomenal. They have locations all over the states.

I just received my first order in the mail last week and was really happy with my purchase. They also have a catalogue you can order to take a look at.

I love the garlic powder! Garlic bulbs in the grocery store around here are dried out and usually have bad spots on them this time of year. I have run out of my farmer's market supply so their garlic powder usually gets me through until the markets offer the fresh again.

I highly recomend them!

I've purchased from both Penzey's and The Spice House, and haven't noticed any discernible differences in quality between the two. You'd do fine with ordering from either of them.

Duh, just realized my redundant reply. Yes, Spice House is a great place to order. Well packed when recieved and fresh. Their website has been revamped to be more user friendly and has plenty of selection to choose from. I thought I read somewhere that Spice House and Penzy's are owned by the same people. I could be wrong.

I've been ordering from Penzey's for a few years -- great quality. I'm very happy with them.

Penzey's, hands down the best!

We started with the original store in Waukesha Wisconsin and have never found better quality. The strenght of the spices is sometimes at least double of regular spices from other sources.-Dick

Penzey's. I love them. My last order included a bag of parsley flakes and I was blown away by the vibrant color. The smell of their bay leaves will knock your socks off.

I had worked for a pastry chef who ordered his spices from The Spice House. He seemed to be pleased with their products and service.

I have never dealt with Penseys Spices.

Does anyone here know of any good websites or stores that sell spices? I've googled around a bit but personal recommendations would be appreciated. Thanks!

any Hispanic, Middle Eastern, Easter or Western European or Asian market have very inexpensive and fresh herbs and spices ...

there are a bunch of online sources but to be honest I have not ordered except from www.saffron.com

I love to go buy them in stores

I'm lucky enough to live by the Spice House, and I can definitely say everything there is stellar. They're still small enough that they can grind spices fresh each week, and they often have a wide selection within individual spices. I highly recommend them.

I've been using Penzeys for years and agree that they are great to shop at. They have a number of retail locations as well but we have only used their website.

I used to buy all my spices from Penzeys until I realized that the local warehouse club had a lot of the same things for much less. I get whatever I can from Costco/BJ's, buy most of my mexican spices from the local mexican store, and my indian spices at the indian shops. They're all much cheaper than Penzey's and I can't tell the difference in flavor.

Anything I can't find locally I'll go to Penzeys for.

Another vote for Penzey's. I find that their customer service is great and they often put a freebie in with my order. I love their Florida Seasoned Pepper and I don't usually like blends.
