Left over mashed potato and Brussel sprouts from dinner last night became ‘ ‘bubble and squeak’ with a poached egg on top for breakfast.

Many of us like a cup of tea with breakfast. Also eggs. Why not combine them.

This is not SO unusual round these parts. Scrambled eggs with tea leaves. The young leaf shoots are preferred.

French toast casserole (with nutmeg instead of cinnamon as houseguest is allergic), strawberries, toasted pecan maple syrup and bacon.

I typically don't like sweet breakfast but this was good.

I was home last night nursing a cold and trying to take it easy (I've got several speaking engagements this weekend, so doing all I can to get better / not get worse).

Was reading a little story about a bakery and thought 'I need to bake some bread.' Realized we were out of flour so bopped over to the shop for flower, and saw a little (250ml) bottle of cream and thought, 'Why don't I make some butter while I'm at it?' - which I've never done before.

So, I made some basic salted butter, which was so easy and felt a little bit magical when the whipped cream 'suddenly' became butter. Then the super-easy no-knead bread that we usually make, but I substituted the buttermilk for the water called for.

Made for a delicious breakfast. The texture of the bread was definitely different, reminds me a bit of a biscuit. I'm curious what is happening chemically when using buttermilk instead of plain water in a break recipe (or any baking, for that matter).

Anyhoo, toasted with plenty of butter, what a great brekkie. And I probably need to go have another slice now...

I’ve got a thing about poached eggs ATM. Breakfast was mushrooms and bacon and a poached egg all on top of a sourdough toast again.

Made semolina dhokla for the first time. I have tried the traditional dhokla in the past and didnt like it much. But THIS version was surprisingly low effort, quick and delicious. Made it in a 10 inch cake pan and steamed it in a makeshift-steamer for 10 minutes. Though I made a simple and light yoghurt chutney that's different from the spicy chutneys typically used. And added more sesame than cumin or mustard.

I think I'll keep making this for breakfast. So glad to have (finally😁) found a quick breakfast that doesnt involve me standing in the kitchen for 30 minutes AND tastes good AND is fulfilling AND healthy (other than my breakfast rice bowls ofcourse) ;))

皮蛋瘦肉粥 (pí dàn shòu ròu zhōu), century egg and lean pork congee and 小笼包 (xiǎo lóng bāo) small steamed pork dumplings.

Dips / sides: pickled daikon radish with the congee; chilli sauce with the xiaolongbao.

Since we had rhubarb pie last night, I didn't make the dinner I had initially planned to cook.
So I made a roast beef dinner for breakfast. Moe loves this meal any time of day.
May be an image of souffle

Served with Yorkshire Puddings,
May be an image of steak and mushy peas
mashed potatoes and gravy and buttered peas.
I'm working today so going to take the same thing for lunch.
The eggs I use are from a friend's chickens and they are free range and the yolks are very yellow.
Yesterday's rhubarb pie filling was yellow and today's Yorkshires were also very yellow.

'Russian style' cold smoked herring with its roe. (Actually produced in China.)

I added butter and grilled 🇬🇧 / broiled 🇺🇸 it. Served with buttered sourdough.

Good morning!

新鲜肉小笼包 (xīn xiān ròu xiǎo lóng bāo)

Fresh pork xiaolongbao (small basket dumplings). Here with a chilli dip.

I couldn't decide which picture to use, so you get both.

The second is a nicer image, IMO, although the spacing of the buns around the dip could be improved slightly. In any case, seems like a tasty meal.

Dhokla is new to me. So I had to look it up. You say yours is not a traditional dhokla. Is a traditional one more like this description? "An ordinary dhokla is made using fermented ground lentils and rice batter."
