I do hope the “boys” are staying out of the way when you get this enthusiastic!

😂

They back waaaaay up and stare --they don't know quite what to think about it.  Especially when the lid opens up on it's own after the process is done.  It boggles their minds.

Having such a good time with this machine.  Hoping to get some watermelon from the garden in a few weeks.  Must try to compress some.

In the mean time, Ronnie found some good t-bone steaks on sale :)

I'd cut the bone out and bag the muscles separately.  They really do appreciate different temperatures.

SNAP.

You are a lucky gal.  I too love my machine.  The bags are so cheap.  It is very easy to use.  I think I have changed my oil once in four years and it was crystal clear and that reminds me I should inspect it again.  We have to move the Cadco Convection out of the way then we can deal with the VacMaster.  Good for you.

I'm jealous! Been having my eye on one for a while.

Ronnie made me an adjustable bag holder so it's way easier to pour liquids in :)

We cut both ends off an empty Pringles can. It stands upright on its own. You can push a bag into it (we typically use a narrower bag than what's shown above; it slides inside the tube nicely) and then fold the top of the bag over the edge of the can. A canning funnel fits right in, to avoid messes. The advantage of folding the bag edge over is that with the funnel to direct, the chances of getting stuff on the part of the bag that needs to stay clean for sealing is minimal. Once the bag has been filled, the funnel gets removed (either into the second prepped can/bag setup) or to a plate, the bag gets unfolded, and when you pick up the can, the full bag slips right out the bottom opening of the can.

@Shelby

is that ham fully cooked ?

is it " salty ? "

I prefer bacon to ham.

but some time ago there was a smoked ham on sale , that needed to be cooked.

I cut it up into decent pieces , along the muscle seems  removing some of the knarly bits

and then SV'd the pieces w a couple of ice cubes in each pack

ice so it would be easier to vac.

i did 130  for I can't remember how long , but for a " tough ' pice of meat

the results were very nice.   enough salt went into the water so the me dat was not very salty

but their remained plenty of subtle smoky flavor

nice for sandwiches it was.

Me and the VacMaster have been busy

Great, I'm jealous.

Am I reading the VacMaster site correctly that their entry-level chamber unit retails for $799?  And the replacement oil is $65/gallon?

After having two non-chamber FoodSaver Model 360 units with poor results/longevity, I now have a FoodSaver Model 3840 that I'm pretty happy with.  This was once carried by Costco at a substantial discount off the $329 MSRP.  I got mine from a thrift store for $35.  I run a different heavier bag material that holds up well to sous vide baths and most pointy things.  It has an acceptably small footprint to have earned a place on my countertop.

What did you use before and has the VacMaster been worth the high price?

Yes, you are reading that right.

I buy replacement oil off Amazon--the last time I bought was in July of '22 (it was a couple bucks cheaper but it's only $29 now)  and I have a lot left.  Each time you change the oil you only use  3 to 3 1/2 oz of oil so it's not much.

I had a really cheap FoodSaver that I hated.  I honestly didn't know what I was missing out on before I got the Vacmaster.  I love being able to bag up broth and other things that are more juicy.  Now, your model may do all that, I don't know but I adore what I have now.

when I got interested in SV,

I realized this technique would become an important one for me .

I purchased good quality items that were available then

a SousVide Magic system , and a Weston system .

I realized the FoodSaver system wwasnt for me.  The Weston did not have a oil pump

eventually it needed to get sent bak for repair , and they changed the sealing gaskets

for no reason what so ever , and it never sealed easily again .

I knew then from experience , that SV was a key way for me to cook .

I hesitated a bit on the price , but got the Vacmaster , w the oil pump.

love it, and well worth the price , short term , or very long term , in my case.

it comes w some oil

but as @Shelby states :   for home use , you don't have to change it frequently

so after you use the extra oil they include , if they still do

1 qt :: 30 USD ::  approximately 10 oil changes .
