I'm trying to start a small chocolate business. Boxes are eluding me. I've tried package nakazowa that someone else recommended, and while their boxes are beautiful, I'd like to find a retailer in Canada to cut down on shipping costs(and exchange). Does anyone have any ideas?? How can I find something? Google does not seem to be my friend, as whenever I search I just come up with other chocolatiers trying to sell their packages.

I'm in California but I saw a box in a large snack producers catalog and actually asked them where they got it. They had special ordered it but gave me the name of the west coast company they had used. I now use Glerup Revere almost exclusively. They have some nice stuff in their regular line and can do great custom work as well. Good luck.

I get Baker's Journal magazine which is Canadian — one of the ads is from Genpak (Mississauga)

www.genpak.com 1-800-626-6695 for info and samples. Don't know if this company will have exactly what you want, but if not could probably give you leads. Another might be Westcan Marketing Inc. 403-720-9590. That's Calgary, isn't it? There's got to be more than one source in Vancouver ... Susan

i also just had some cute rustic looking crates designed at www.crateideas.com if you're looking for something different.

Yeah, I've seen their site and ordered molds from them, but their boxes are a little cheesey.

Hello to the EGullet community. I own a small artisanal chocolate company, and I'm in search of a good supplier of custom European-style candy boxes. Currently I'm covering 2-pc boxes by hand; very pretty but it just takes up too much time. [Time I'd rather spend making chocolate!] I'd like to find a supplier who can furnish the hot-stamped box, candy pads, candy trays (blisters) and custom-stamped ribbon.

The level of quality I'm looking for is similar to what you would find in La Maison du Chocolat boxes.

Does anyone have a recommendation? Thanks in advance!

I have been using www.packagenakazawa.com. The boxes are really simple and classy. They come with plastic blisters and tissue papers. They are a little hard to figure out how to fold though. I got a shipment of boxes with no instructions on how to put the scored peices of cardboard together. It took a couple of hours, but now I can fold them with my eyes shut!

I work in production for advertising agencies and have done my share of packaging. I can add two things:

First, I use these guys in Richmond, VA for a lot of my specialty boxes. I don't know if you are looking for something custom, but they have always been good for me. I have used them for a lot of custom packaging through the years. Even though they are mostly for direct mail, they will custom produce anything you want.

Secondly, one of our clients a few years back was a restaurant chain for whom we designed a label for their barbeque sauce that was sold retail (don't ask -- it was a national chain restaurant and the sauce was nothing to write home about). I do know that you need to use FDA approved food safe inks and glues for food products and labels. I thought it was kind of stupid considering the fact the most people aren't inclined to lick sauce off the label of a bottle to the extent that he or she would ingest enough ink to be an issue, but hey, it's the FDA.

I have been using www.packagenakazawa.com.

Yes, I've heard of Package Nakazawa, and they have a lot of interesting options. Thanks for the suggestion.

Here's another vote for Package Nakazawa.  They have beautiful packaging.

One more company with exquisite packaging is KMM Product Inc

Hmmm... some interesting options. Hadn't heard of KMM before. Thanks.

for the long narrow ones, most companies don't carry anything like it except for jewelry boxes...for watches and bracelets etc. they're usually too wide and too flat and they don't have inserts for the chocolates either. i've just been doing some research on this as i'm also doing favors for a wedding.

the most common candy boxes are for four pieces in a square (unfortunately).

i just bought some long clear plastic ones from The Revere Group. also, you can buy a martha stewart wedding and she has all her sources in the back. it is pretty helpful sometimes.

try doing an eGullet search as this topic has been discussed at length previously, so i know there are links.

I have also used the Rever group in the past. USBox is another good source. They have a good selection of standard boxes and will run a custom box for you. Look in their coordinated box line. I also have a friend at Marfred Packaging that will do a custom box for you to your specs. I don't think you are wanting those however, as you have to do a large run. US Box or Revere are your best choices that I can see.

You might want to try Charlie's Chocolate Factory. They have chocolate boxes and inserts although I don't see the exact size on their website but you could get in touch with them. They may have more sizes than shown.

I use boxes from www.aspecialtybox.com. They have a nice selection & you can purchase them in small quantities. A good company to work with.
