Seeking Great Sushi in North Jersey...

in teaneck

there is east

not bad

Uh, no.

East's quality has diminished quite a bit and the service is abyssmal. I'm never going back there.

if you want "great" sushi I would say Wild Ginger in Englewood, but you're talking manhattan prices and the place is very hard to get into on most nights.

Wild Wasabi in Norwood is really good but its a tiny little no nonsense place owned by Koreans - however the fish is very fresh.

I"ve got to go with Gan on Chestnut Ridge Road in Wodcliffe Lake. The Sushi Chef (Mr Lee) is a Nobu Alumnus and really knows his stuff. Sit at the bar and let him do his thing.

I'm a NYC expat. Since coming to the darkside, as many of my freinds have said, I've found that most good things in NYC are made in NJ.

"I'm in Westfield, if that helps, but will travel for an amazing piece o' raw fish." Westfield is only 40 min from the city ... if you are willing ot travel for amazing fish then come into the city. Sushi Yasuda!

Nori in Caldwell (on Bloomfield Ave) is WONDERFUL!!!

"I'm not eating it...my tongue is just looking at it!" --My then-3.5 year-old niece, who was NOT eating a piece of gum

"Wow--this is a fancy restaurant! They keep bringing us more water and we didn't even ask for it!" --My 5.75 year-old niece, about Bread Bar

"He's jumped the flounder, as you might say."

The sushi at Ixora in Whitehouse station was fabulously fresh and sweet. Especially the Hamachi which I find hard to come by "fresh" tasting. Pricey but what sushi isn't, if it's good.

I know it's not a restaurant but I was incredibly impressed with the sushi from Wegmans market.
