Food TV chefs: which ones would you most want to prepare meat for you and why? Which ones would you most like to roast bone-in?

Food TV chefs: which ones would you most want to prepare meat for you and why? Which ones would you most like to roast bone-in?

Tony Bourdain - because if he can eat that much of an animal, he'll certainly know the best parts to serve.

Christopher Kimball (not FoodTV, does he still count?) - because it will be prepared the 'best' way

Paula Deen - because it will most likely be bacon :wub:

I'd like to roast Emeril because he's just so damn annoying.

Can we include dead ones? If bringing them back from the grave counts, I'd take James Beard. Then I would want to bring back Jennifer Patterson and have her and Clarissa Dickson Wright. Lastly, Bernard Loiseau (he was on TV in France).

I'd like to roast Emeril because he's just so damn annoying.

I think Emeril would make fabulous Man Meat -- he is pretty chunky himself and, having eaten well, would undoubtedly produce a fine roast!

I'd choose Tony Bourdain. He appears to have genuine enthusiasm for all foods and is not afraid to eat anything any way...

Emeril is most definitely the candidate for a roasting though I wouldn't touch the finished "product". His "recipes" on his TV show are a disgrace to chefs everywhere.

Is the food in his restaurants that is anyway similar to what he cooks on TV? I certainly hope not but if that's the case, it makes me wonder if his TV show is just entertainment and not edutainment.

Among TV chefs, my first choice for cooking a meat meal would be Mario Batali. It's funny, because I've never enjoyed his meat-cooking at Babbo or Lupa, which is pretty much an afterthought. But on Molto Bario, his meats are practically pornographic. Everything is simple, he uses plenty of economy cuts, cooks them on the top of the stove (which for a browning freak like me is always a plus) and there's none of that ongepatchke bullshit you get when he is creating event meals. The chef I'd most like to roast bone-in? It's hard to decide. There are so many! Everyone despises Emeril, but for sheer ineptitude, it's hard to beat Jamie Oliver. And of course the food guy from Queer Eye From the Straight Guy is about as much of a food expert as the Hamburglar -- who he kind of resembles. If we're eating people just because they look appetizing, obviously the conversation begins and ends with Nigella. But I don't want to go there! Let cannibalism be punishment, not wish-fulfillment! Eww! :shock:

If we're bringing them back from the TV past to kill, I might have to nominate Chef Tell, who used to say "I wish this was smellovision!" every five seconds, or that lisping hamhock the Frugal Gourmet.

When it comes to passion and pleasure, in my estimation there isn't anyone who comes close to the "Frugel Gourmet", especially to meats. I'm so glad that my daughter had taped some episodes. He's the only TV Chef, that actually comes across with whatever he's written into his cookbooks in his shows.

They were very real in their execution, timing and feelings. I haven't found anyone on the Food Network or Public Television who's done their home work as well, nor the execution in a non-intimidating manner. Jeff Smith is my eyes is still the best.

I disagree.  I think he was the worst TV chef ever.  Of course, he does get points for molesting his young assistant.  Doesn't he?

Ray Charles has the "Raylettes," so why the hell shouldn't you have the cutlettes? It's only fair, really.

Would they wear skimpy outfits? Be outcast cheerleaders who couldn't adhere to the moral code necessary to represent the Bucanneers appropriately? Retired porn stars who enjoy a good steak?

Whoa !!! We've had assistants willingly molested in the Big House. In the House Up THERE ! But Jeff Smith never had any insignations about HIS assistants. The closest It ever came was with a Civil Suit, settled out of Court regarding a age of consent adolescent, alleging some questionable behavior when employed at his wifes restaurant in Tacoma, years before the Cookbooks and Television.

Whatever happened I won't put the man down since if were anything criminal it would have not been so easily settled thru a Civil Court Action.

Since we accept questionable behavior from so many others who are performing in public in politics, on-air commentators, clergy or even on the food tv performers I feel that he may have been gotten a worst deal then what he deserved comparatively.

I still feel that "Frugel Gourmet", 1/2 Hour TV Shows are much better then what I generally watch on PBS and the Food Network. In Recipies, Content, Real Enjoyment and Feeling Conveyed. Even his cookbooks are better then the majority. He certainly enjoyed and acted impressed and excited when visiting and trying Restaurants, Markets and Travel.

Molesting aside~

It's been years since I've seen one of his shows. What I remember is Jeff Smith annoying the hell out of me when he would always say, "I wish you could smell the ODOR of this".

Odor, to me, conjures up something foul and offending. So, no matter what he was cooking, I dismissed him, since he didn't know the difference between Odor and Aroma, when it comes to food.

I still watched the show though, since there were very few cooking shows on TV.

And I remember him talking about the wife, and the aubergine colored dress that made her look so sexy.

Isn't Jamie Oliver good for meat? I've never eaten his food or used his recipes so I can't judge if he's inept in his treatments or not. But this is a guy who starts his shows by popping into specialty shops and talking to the cheese monger or butcher or fish monger. He encourages people to develop these relationships and to learn what the best products are and to insist on them. In the latest series he takes all his trainees out to the farm where the animals that supply his restaurant are raised. All good, no? I actually can't think of a TV personality who's been a better advocate for meat (besides Tony Bourdain).

This "Complaint", certainly makes one surmise that 'Where theres Smoke theres Fire". Would have been interesting to have seem the response.

Seems that the only thing I was partially right about was my chronology of the majority of events. I'll keep the Books, but the TV shows will be put to rest. I've kept positive thoughts about him since my late Wife enjoyed his TV Shows.

I've seen occasional postings about Jeff Smith riding around the Pike Market area in a Electric Scooter, surprising he's got the Chatzpah to remain in the Seattle Market area.
