I tried McVitie's black cheesecake sandwich cookies, and wasn't really impressed. They're not bad, but meh *shrug*. They remind me of Oreo cookies but are less sweet. If you compared them to Oreos, they're way better! However, I couldn't taste any of the "cheese" flavour.

I also got some chestnut "bamboo shoot" cookies, but haven't tried them yet.

For those of you who are familiar with Tirol chocolates (those little chocolate squares, usually with chewy stuff in the middle), they have an Uji Matcha flavour out. It's awesome! The chocolate part really tastes like matcha. I'm not thrilled with the middle chewy part, but the matcha makes up for everything else.

It's even better than the kinako one!

New Kit Kat

Matcha Milk

Run out now and get this one while it lasts!!

I tried that one a couple of days ago, but I didn't like it. It barely tastes like matcha at all! Even the matcha and adzuki one was more match-y!

Why can't they bring back my beloved plain matcha??

The yubari one has been out for a while, but it was a limited edition Hokkaido one, I think. A friend of mine brought me one as a souvenir from Hokkaido two summers ago.

I'd like to try the lemon and kiwi ones. I've seen the banana one, but don't like bananas enough to want to try it.

Do you know if the lemon and kiwi ones come in mini-sizes or are they regular-sized KitKat bars? I hate the minis, because they only come in big bags, but I will usually only eat half a regular KitKat bar, and give the rest away.

Yeah that Yubari melon one has been the shelves around me for close to a month now. I tried a similar one before and wasn't impressed so I have passed on this one.

The lemon I have only seen available in mini, if I saw a regular sized one I would probably give it a try.

I am not a banana fan either so I will be passing on that one too.

On the news it looked like the kiwi one was a regular size, I would have gone out to buy it but my kids are off today and I don't feel like dragging them all to a convenience store....

Speaking of news, it has nothing to do with food but my husband's picture was in the Yomiuri Newspaper today! The article can be found online here. He is the one on the surfboard..

If you find one, let me know which convenience store it was at. I find it very annoying that Family Mart and Lawson's don't always carry the same things, so I have to go to either one or the other to get what I want.

Cool! So, he's an oyaji now?

By the way, I tried the ube (purple potato) Tirol chocolates. They tasted very much like ube, which would be a good thing if I liked ube. They had a wafer center rather than a mochi center, too. The bag was very cool, though!

The ume ones are very ume-ish. Quite sweet, I thought. They reminded me of umeshu.

Caramel, it wasn't as good as I was hoping. It had a pretty bad fake caramel flavor.

Whew! I'm glad I dodged that bullet! I almost bought those last week, but then changed my mind at the last minute. I would have hated them!

When I was in Kyoto last week, I found some matcha KitKat!!! I was so excited to see them, but I didn't buy any. Just plain Uji Matcha--no anko, no fake cream flavour...

Next time I go back to Kyoto (probably not until December), I'm buying some!

This has been out for a couple weeks but I just picked it up. Chestnut Kit Kat.

Why do they insist on ruining good ideas with bad white chocolate???

I kind of liked the vanilla bean kitkat, but my favourite white chocolate-based kitkat is still cafe latte. I wish they'd bring that one back!

I have a cookies and milk (not cream) kitkat in my desk that my co-worker gave me (she also gave me the vanilla bean one). We like to share kitkat and Tirol discoveries. I've not tried the cookies and milk one, yet, but will share my experience when I do.

I also have an Uji Matcha torokeru (plus two kanji I can't read, but the second is the same "zawa" as the "zawa" in "Takanazawa" in Tochigi-ken) KitKat. I had high hopes for it--it's made with dark chocolate, and the matcha is in the middle. Unfortunately, it kind of sucks, and you can barely taste the matcha. It also comes in apple flavour, but I didn't buy it. It was kind of expensive, too, and comes in a really nice box.

eta: I just asked a co-worker, and the kanji after torokeru means "luxury" but I can't remember what the word was (the reading of the second kanji wasn't "zawa", though). And upon reading more closely, it also has anko in it.

Whatever...it still sucked, and was a waste of Y150.

Clockwise from twelve o'clock: Meiji Almond Crunch, Cookies and Milk KitKat, Special Matcha KitKat, and Vanilla Bean KitKat. I love chocolate-covered almonds, and the Meiji ones are my favourite. The Almond Crunch ones have a crunchy layer between the almond and the chocolate. I really like them (you can see the box has been opened, and it's empty!). I'm eating a Cookies and Milk KitKat right now. First, the box is nice, but I really like the wrapper inside. It's very pretty in a plain sort of way. Second, the kitkat isn't so bad, either. I like it more than the vanilla bean one, and it really does taste more like what it's supposed to taste like, than most of the white chocolate-based kitkats do. Most just taste like white chocolate (i.e. yucky), but this tastes a little of the cookies part, but not so much the milk part.

Home after 5 days of good eating and snacking, this is what we still have in our stash...uhm...2 or 3 boxes of each  . Don't think they'll last long, though. Oh, I didn't see all the above varieties of KitKat or Pocky! Hubby says I'm going to turn into a porky very soon.

Would appreciate if I can get the name of the snacks below. We particularly like the black sesame seed (?) triangular mochi-like snack with red-bean filling. These we bought from a snack shop in Shinzaibashi.

There are a few more boxes of goodies not photographed. Such a shame to open up such beautifully-wrapped boxes.

In the second photo, top to bottom:

Imo-youkan (implying yokan made with sweet potatoes)

Kuromame-zerii (black bean jelly/gelatin)

Kuri-kinton (chestnuts in sweet potato puree)

In your last photo, you mostly have photos of varieties of (nama-)yatsu-hashi, which is usually made with honey. Those ones probably have a short shelf life.

thanks!

These snacks are called okoshi おこし (not okashi). In Tokyo, Kaminari Okoshi 雷おこし in Asakusa is very famous.
