  1. These snacks are called okoshi おこし (not okashi). In Tokyo, Kaminari Okoshi 雷おこし in Asakusa is very famous. ← Hey, thanks! As a matter of fact, I did buy some of these snacks Okoshi in Asakusa, I google around for Japanese crackers... but couldn't find the name of it. So I posted here. It turned out to be quite tasty,I did a sample tasting along Nakamise street, yum! http://www.ajiwai.com/otoko/make/okosi.htm -> a recipe!
  2. Help please! What do you call these snacks ? (the long finger like ones) http://www.flickr.com/photos/bigguybigcity/2180772056/ http://www.flickr.com/photos/bigguybigcity/2179990487/ thanks!
  3. Does any one know what the white gooey-ish thing is? I'm assuming its fluffed up egg white, regretted not asking if I could taste that !
  4. I returned from Japan recently & bought this furikake pack(I love furikake, I must havebought about 15 packs from the y100 store!) but I have no idea what this is.. any idea? http://img391.imageshack.us/img391/1962/furikakeue2.jpg
  5. ^ Thank you! I searched some Korean Beef Bbq restaurants' menu & http://www.hotpepper.jp/A_20200/strJ000039416_hmd0.html now I know what to order 塩ハラミ ! Thanks
  6. Yeah, actually I was looking through hotpepper for some korean bbq places & using an online translator to translate the menu just to see what it says, doesn't really say anything less marbled & etc but thats okay. I'm also worried about picking up wrong flavours of onigiri.. but I'll look through the threads here! thank you for your help anyway! =)
  7. ^Thank you. Yup I think it has more to do with parts of the beef, right? Or I could just go with the cheapest option ;-) cos I think marbled beef is more valuable right
  8. The pitamac looks interesting. It is weird seeing lotus root in a burger. Btw,What are the flavours for the croquette burgers?
  9. Hello there. I need some help ;-) I'm not sure if this has been asked before... anyway, I went to this Korean beef bbq restaurant and had a beef bbq bento, my Japanese friend ordered the set for me but this time I'll be on my own. I don't remember the words for less marbled beef, I don't want too much fats in my beef. Can some one type the japanese characters here for me? I'll copy it and try to match them with the menu ! TIA.
  10. Hey cookaburra, :-) what is this soybean farm restaurant you're talking about? Sounds really interesting. Are you talking about this http://www.soybeanfarm.co.jp/ ? I'd love to check out this place when I'm in Tokyo this december(I'll be there the same time as you!) Do you know the directions? And by the way... does anybody know of a restaurant that specializes in tofu?I love tofu haha
  11. I love mushimono! I haven't tried the Japanese version of mushi-pan, but I love the Chinese version, its soft and fluffy, you can mix the batter with 7UP too. http://www60.tok2.com/home/pipitti/steam.htm ^ found a page that rates mushi-pan I think
  12. can some one share the name of this sushi please? trying to organise my flickr account
  13. Ok, thanks! I'll definitely try Asakusa, I love that place
  14. Thank you! I know what Tokyo definitely has many places selling kasutera, I just can't seem to find it when I want it! I'll be traveling to Tokyo in May with my Aunt but she'll be away in London and I get to explore Tokyo for a week all by myself. I'm quite scared actually since I'm 18 and do not know the language. Torakris, Thanks! I'd love to try Tokyo kasutera.. but I can't read Japanese. It says Ueno? Yeah, the link you gave for the Nagaski kasutera was the one I ate in Nagasaki, very very delicious! A picture of the green tea kasutera I bought in Nagasaki:
  15. Where do one buy kasutera in Tokyo? I don't think I've noticed it anywhere in Tokyo. I am sure food basements in the departmental stores should have it, but whenever I look, I can't find it. I bought mine in Nagasaki and Yokohama but in May, I'll only be visiting Tokyo and am worried I can't find it anywhere, I've been craving for it!
  16. Can anyone tell me what they call this in Japan? I was telling my friends about it and I don't want to call them "small little sponge cake things". Thanks
  17. I'm sorry I don't have a picture of the packaging. I bought it thinking it was kasutera! I bought this in a Japanese snack shop, they sell dorayaki and etc etc. JasonTrue, so the brown snack in Torakis's picture is actually mochi with kinako. I thought kinako was the gooey thing. Torakis, thanks for the link and warm welcome! I really like the Japan forum, I never knew Tokyo Bay/Odaiba existed till I visited this forum. When I go to Tokyo, it was always the same old places like Harajuku, Ueno, Akihabara.. I'm learning nihongo from your thread! Is this kasutera? My mother knows a little Japanese and she tells me they call this Honey Cake.
  18. One of the daifuku I had in Japan, I've always thought they were just called mochi. This has actual whole red bean in the fillings. I couldn't find much fruit flavoured daifuku around, only strawberry, it was probably because I couldn't read Japanese.
  19. I just got back from a vacation in Japan and I bought this thinking it was some sort of a cake. But it isn't, it is hard and crispy, sort of like a biscuit. Does anyone know what this is? What is kinako? I saw something similar but I have always thought it was just something sticky with grated peanuts. Are these called Taiyaki? I bought this in Asakusa Kannon Temple TIA, I'm telling my friends about the food I ate in Japan and I didn't want to give the wrong information. (My first post and I'm asking 3478734 questions! )
