On a birthday outing with family, got treated to a preprandial cocktail including a fishy garnish, and after dinner a lovely flight of vermouths and amari.

Later posted my entry into Reddit's September cocktail challenge, a pecan/bourbon/lemon/maple/sage/cardamom invention I'm calling One-Pedal Driving

Yeah, I should have added -ish to all those cocktail names not least because I’m using Bruto Americano instead of Campari as I like its increased bitterness and reduced sweetness.
I took my permission to play from Tony Cecchini’s NYT article, where he said,

So says the man who puts 2 ryes and 3 vermouths in his Boulevardier 🙃

Edited to add that I realized that I’d previously only made the proper bourbon Boulevardier with proper Campari so I went ahead and made an improper Boulevardier-ish cocktail with equal parts bourbon, Cocchi vermouth di Torino to wrap up Negroni week.  Very nice.

My latest  obsession s the Vodka Gibson.

Made with Absolut Peppar and these.

Two onion and a tablespoon of the juice.  One large ice cube.

Spicy with a hint of sweetness.

One's my limit, lest I slide onto the floor.

Had my first of the season Tom and Jerry yesterday.

I made it the easy way with premade mix from the grocery store.

I added the hot milk, cognac, dark rum and nutmeg.  Absolutely delicious!

I received one of these Breville Milk Cafe frothers (eG-friendly Amazon.com link) for a Christmas gift a few years ago.  I drink my coffee black, have never found a use for it and have failed at every attempt to give it away. Finally found a good use!  I tried Uncle Pete's improved Amaro Latte recipe from his video and it's quite a tasty warm dessert drink, if a bit on the sweet side.

His template:

1.5 oz Whole Milk
1 oz Amaro
.25 oz Liqueur
1 Barspoon Homey Syrup (2:1)

Foam/heat with a milk frother.

I used Averna and Mr. Black coffee liqueur per the video. Since I don't have an espresso machine with a steam want, I used that Breville frother and it worked very well.  Would like to play around with other combos.  My only issue is that I need to make a double in order to reach the minimum fill like on the frother I have.  Oh well 🙃

What was in the premade mix?
