"Mother" in Olive Oil

Hii,

I bought some olive oil the other day at the supermarket.

Its Chilean EVOO. from a company called HUASCO

This brand was discontinued and was heavily reduced..so I bought it

I was pouring some into a NorPro squeezy bottle and noticed stuff that looks like Vinegar "Mother" swirling around in the bottle.

Here are 2 pics

Ive never noticed this phenomenon in other oils. Is this safe?

Wawa Sizzli FTW!

If it seems like it holds together and has mass, I don't think I'd eat it because it might be something growing.  If it breaks apart and dissipates, I'd hope it was just fine sediment that settled after sitting on the shelf for too long, and would probably use it as long as it seemed normal in other ways.

And I'd probably toss it as well, just to be safe, if you have no idea what it is.  That's the best rule, right?

However, I will say that I have noticed what sounds like the exact same thing when I buy olive oil that's "unfiltered."  I always use it all up with no ill effect.

I guess that's the first thing I'd do - see if the label says it's unfiltered.  If so, I'd probably still use it.

ETA: I did a quick search about unfiltered olive oil and that cloudy sediment because, as I said, I see it in the unfiltered olive oil I buy and we always eat it, but became concerned that perhaps it's bad for you.

Turns out that it's normal and many people prefer it:  http://www.oliveoiltimes.com/olive-oil-basics/filtered-olive-oil/2254

So, if I were you, I'd check to see if the label says it's unfiltered; and, if so, smell it to be sure it's not rancid.

Then I'd happily congratulate myself for the excellent price.

And use it all up.

I don't understand why rappers have to hunch over while they stomp around the stage hollering.  It hurts my back to watch them. On the other hand, I've been thinking that perhaps I should start a rap group here at the Old Folks' Home.  Most of us already walk like that.
