@Margaret Pilgrim  Hurts, doesn't it?

Patrick Swayze said it best in that cinematic gem Roadhouse :  Pain don't hurt.

Are we going to match blood and injuries?

Channelled@JoNorvelleWalker.    Putting out recycle for collection.    Adding a shopping bag crammed with newspapers.   Very heavy.    Lost control of it and rammed/grated arm against the hard plastic bin.    Peeled 1" x 3" section of skin from forearm like a banana.   Got inside and applied covering.   Changed into nightgown and robe.   Watched TV.    Finally around 10:30pm decided that bleeding was not abating.    Since. I'm on a heavy blood thinner regime, decided I'd better seek treatment.   Called Yellow Cab and went to St. Mary's ER, in bloody robe, making like Lady Macbeth.   Treated and home by midnight.

Old lady skin is not to be trifled with!

Would a bandage impregnated with a hydrocolloid help with this?  https://www.walgreens.com/store/c/walgreens-hydrocolloid-gel-bandages-large/ID=300396760-product

I too suffer from thin skin, what I have recently learned is called senile purpura. I swear if a butterfly lands on me, I will get a nasty looking bruise, Medical terms can definitely lay you low - senile? I was 35 when our twins were born and I was listed on the charts as an "eldery primigravida,"

Did they stop the bleeding by meds put into you?   Do you have to give up the blood thinner for x number of days?  Are you OK more or less today?  Inquiring minds on blood thinners for the first time and currently in "blood" troubles want to know

 No heroic measures necessary.  They just applied nonstick gauze and pressure and sealed me up, giving me enough supplies for the next day change of bandage.   I ordered a slew of first aid products from Walmart yesterday which arrived today so I’m prepared for my next misadventure.

FYI, and for what it’s worth, I have had no side effects from the blood thinners.  Stabbing myself twice a day has been a bore but not painful.

Totally understand. I have so many bruises that I am always sequestered and grilled on any abuse situation I would like to discuss with them.

Count me in with this one.  My arms look as if they had gone to war, but then most of them belong in the blown IV port category and difficult response to a PICC line (peripherally inserted central catheter), a response to blowing IV ports.  Wot larks!

Wot larks indeed!   It’s only my age that allows me any equilibrium.   I have to concede that I have lived many decades, unscathed.     Like Dorian Gray, A lot is coming home to roost.   I have a few quibbles.

Again I am with you.  I too have lived relatively unscathed for lo these many decades...but I've made up for it in major quibbles  this last year and a half.

No, Darienne, in recent months, perhaps years you have been living under a plague equalling Job’s.   My  complaints are in no way a comparison.

I posted this story as a ludicrous vignette, an old woman, cabbing to the ER in a bloodstreaked bathrobe near midnight in a pea soup fog.   Greeted by late dog walkers, and a few neighbors all of whom acted.  as if this were quite normal.   Of course this is San Francisco so maybe it is.

I have been MIA for a bit - partly because we were camping for a while with no service and only the most rudimentary of meals; hot dogs, quesadillas, brought-from-home chili and mac and cheese with ham chunks. While we were away, I learned that a good friend of mine and his wife (and dog) were murdered in their home by a neighbour. Apparently a long standing dispute regrding parking and dog poop. Excuse me, but WTF? The guy shot my friend and his wife and their dog and then set the house on fire and went home and shot himself. This all took place in a very quiet and family riendly neighbourhood. Obviously a mental health issue but still very hard to swallow. My friends were recently retired and were living life to the fullest - much international travelling, and at home, biking, hiking, camping and kayaking. . One small spark of joy is that yesterday, my friend who has been waiting for a kidney transplant for over a year, finally got one yesterday. She is doing well and outputting urine - which is a great sign.
