I never worry about how they do it I just want to go along for the ride : ) But any site dedicated (somewhat) to the finer things in life will draw an upscale crowd. We do seem to have a lot of lawyers, doctors, and writers but lots of members also making the decision to drive the old car one more year just to go to Paris (ok 2 more years). T

Well I wont say its a good "restaurant" but on our way through Toledo last week we stopped at Tony Packos...hot dogs chile etc...because of the M.A.S.H. references... it was a damn tasty hot dog and the chili sauce is quite good (skip the chilimac though) We also had Wings and Burgers at The Quaker Steak and Lube also not fine dining and its a small chain...but very tasty Cleveland has some really good food if you dig up the older threads...we went to Lolita and the Velvet Tango (no children involved) tracey

Goody Box from the States
rooftop1000 replied to a topic in Australia & New Zealand: Cooking & Baking
The Junior League-type cookbook is a great idea. Maybe something like River Road Recipes. And then find one of the typical recipes, and send all the stuff to make it. ← Send plastic measuring cups and spoons if you do cookbooks.... tracey -

We have all brand new appliances, so I am good there. We have new countertop so you would think I was good there...we mismeasured the custom top and it is 1/2 inch in from the end of the cabinet DOH But the cabinets, some are 1930's literally built in varnished pine, some are 1980s home depot oak, and some are new home depot maple, which I intended to replace the rest with at some point but they dont sell them anymore. Stove hood HAH, our stove is in front of a window so no hood or curtains and the ceiling isn't exactly standard height....maybe 7ft except for the beams which are of course lower Next..... tracey

U.S. Government mandated salt/sodium restrictions?
rooftop1000 replied to a topic in Food Traditions & Culture
The packaged food industry needs to do more than label how much sodium is in something they really do need to decrease it... At my last job, all winter the bosses had some brand or other of a "Healthy Choice" soup 1 can each for lunch, one day a young girl was having a package of Ramen (the biggest salt bomb most people can think of) I checked the Ramen and a soup can from the bin...because the soup is "more than 1 serving per can" it contained more sodium than the Ramen....YECH tracey -
Veggie cream cheese would be a nice addition, especially with ham Horseradish and roasted pepper spread with beef... t

No, I will not be suggesting you use a velveeta like product but I recently saw a show about why and how it was made. It was made because melted cheese breaks...and it is made by whipping at at a high temp...with oils and acids.... So perhaps a really good shot with an immersion blender will help break things up to be more homoginized tracey

Partially set gelatin isn't that hard to work with. You could either use different colors and set the face with a dropper or use fruit bits (blueberries, cherries) think of Rachel's Rainbow Jello mold tracey

Since it was over 70 here yesterday we invited a few ppl for a regular old BBQ. Cheeseburgers, Hotdogs, Macaroni Salad, and Tossed salad. I was going to serve potato chips and dip but got sidetracked when the guests arrived with bags from the local Italian bakery. I tossed some of the sliced bread round bread into the toaster, diced some tomatoes and onions into a bowl with grated garlic, last summers pesto, and balsamic. The toast was spread with some leftover riccota and the tomato salad. Pastries for dessert tracey

Italian Easter Pies - "Shadoons" or "Chadonnes"
rooftop1000 replied to a topic in Italy: Cooking & Baking
Italian-American transmutation of Italian or dialect I love it - I live it No Easter pies here though, I had never heard of them until I started reading Bill Ervelino's column in the Record newspaper. Funny guy and his mom make lots of pies. tracey -
Thevegetarian pie would not have had traditional gelatin in it... may have been arrowroot starch if it was clear, cornstarch will set up a little cloudy tracey
