  2. I dunno what’s wrong with me. I keep a list of grocery items I need on my phone. Here’s what it said this AM: Farmers Market: Garlic Parsley Cilantro Gorgonzola Brussels sprouts Celery Kumquats Kale Squash Cabbage Potatoes Eggs Sourdough bread Grocery: Olive oil Fava beans Asparagus Artichoke hearts Here’s what I got at the farmers market: Lemons Meyer lemons Oranges Pears Baby kale Frisée Cauliflower Snap peas Manzano peppers Avocados Eggs Sourdough bread Lord knows what will happen at the grocery store! In my defense, a few vendors were missing from today’s farmers market, including the ones I wanted to get the kumquats and Gorgonzola from. Everything else, except garlic, was there but my shopping bag was so full of stuff that wasn’t on the list that I deferred them to tomorrow when I can stop into a local farmstand. Sheesh!
  3. My understanding is that diet change typically can change blood cholesterol by maybe 10 % so not usually enough. As my brother said, "We chose the wrong parents" They do have a drug which will inhibit the uptake of dietary cholesterol. Didn't get me to my target but I told my doc that I was happy to spend the money on it if it meant I can eat cheese with less guilt

  5. Pineapple Upside Down Cake for my aunt Joyce’s birthday. She is shocked I used a fresh pineapple 😁. I guess she never thought of it 🤷‍♀️

  8. My GF, who when younger had lost weight easily on the Atkins diet, more recently tried it again. She lost no weight, but her cholesterol hit alarming levels and she's now on a statin for the duration. OTOH, going back to 2017, I lost 30 pounds or so on an eating pattern that was pretty heavy on carbs, albeit mostly in the form of whole grains (because I'm not one for keeping track of details, I centered my eating around fiber, because fiber content overall is a pretty good proxy for "healthfulness": if you're getting the recommended amount of fiber from whole foods, rather than a supplement, you probably can't go far wrong). Have kept it off since, though over the past six months or so I've regained 5 of 'em because I started slacking a bit. It didn't help that the drought meant I lost a couple of hundred pounds' worth of veggies that I'd normally have had in my diet. (ETA: GF is now losing weight steadily again, despite her arthritis-enforced limits on physical activity, with a balanced eating plan. She's shrinking out of some clothes and back into others, and is delighted with her progress.)
  9. I 95% follow this guidance. (And I also take a low-dose statin!).
  10. Here's @chromedome's link for Elle Simone Scott https://archive.ph/XUjRE @dans
  11. Thanks. Love the stuff. We have a Dutch grocery store here that sells some Indonesian products. We are never without kecap manis.
  12. Yes, that's what I was calling "sweet soy sauce" from time to time.
  13. Thank you for taking us along for the ride. Looking forward to the next one. Do they use kecap manis there?

  16. I don't have Bluesky. I don't even know what it is. And if you want to be friends...don't tell me.
  17. @KennethT thank you for putting so much effort into sharing with us your trip. Mostly ice and snow here while you were scuba-ing away. Just Saying. and I thought you might enjoy a Special far Side :
  18. The link for the full thread is higher up in my original post. You may not be able to view it if you don't have a Bluesky account. The "TL:DR" is screencapped, so if you're not seeing it, it's not about accessing the page but about whether you're seeing images correctly on eG with your device. IIRC you'd spoken about that just recently?
  19. Well I think you guys did great turning lemons into lemonade! I really appreciate you showing us your trip--I love that you take us along Also very much looking forward to seeing Komodo Dragons next time
  20. This is the way it's always used here - the skin is green like a lime, but the flesh is orange. It is very acidic, like a lime but different.
  21. That's sad. I enjoyed watching the shows she was in.
  22. Thanks for following along and (hopefully) I'll be back in July for Komodo, Take 2, new and improved!!
  23. Oh, and a gratuitous Singapore airport baggage claim shot....
  24. After dinner, we waddled around for a while before heading into the transit area and to our terminal. We had Gold status with Singapore Airlines because of our points, which allowed us entry into their Gold lounge which is quite nice. There is a lot of nice seating that's not too crowded, a shower room you can use, plus a huge amount of food. They have a manned laksa station which I would have loved to have tried, but I was way too full. They also had lots of Indian food, some dim sum, western choices, a help yourself bar with gin/vodka/mixers plus a staffed bar, wine, and desserts. One thing I was happy about was that they also had a nice selection of TWG teas - which is a high end Singapore tea brand. Since we had a few hours to go while waiting for our flight and I was already getting exhausted, I figured some caffeine wouldn't hurt.... And, of course, you need something to go along with the tea.... Cream puff, chocolate muffin and mango cake. All were quite good. Unfortunately, all tales come to an end, so we eventually had to leave our super comfy seats and make our way to the gate and then hour 18 hour long flight home.... food on that flight can be found here, here and here.
