A buddy of mine, and former Di Bruno guy, will be working the bar at Osteria. Hopefully he can give me a good idea of when they are going to be opening. Pretty interesting location - N. Broad, just before Temple. Guess they're thinking that N. Liberties is expanding west?

Anyway, I'm excited nonetheless. Vetri+pizza=mind-explodingly dope.

I'd be willing to suspend the Review Tour to check out the places in Fairmount--I've been to Rembrandt's but have yet to have their pizza. Their sandwiches and live jazz are both very good, though, so I'd anticipate the pizza's the same.

I'm waiting to hear some feedback about another event that weekend, and once I know that, I will go ahead with a definitive date/time/itinerary, for it appears that there are plenty o' folks rarin' to go on a pizza run that weekend.

I was really bummed when I heard the quality at Pepe's had gone way down, BUT reading this at Rebitrth of Pepe's is great news.

We have had the clam, bacon and green pepper pie at Sally's Apizza, kind of like a clams casino pizza, and it was outstanding. The clams were fresh, juicy and the pie was charred just perfectly from the coal oven.

Regarding NYC pizza, Lombardi's used to make an excellent clam pie, but their quality control had been an issue in the recent past. I was told by the Philly Lombardi's management, may they RIP, that the NYC Lombardi's was going to focus on the quality control in there much expanded space. If they get back to their old selves, I would highly recommend their white clam pie. As good as Sally's, but different.

Finally, DiFara, though deliciious, is reportedly a two hour wait no matter when you go. Maybe if some of those people looked in the bathroom(he rarely lets anyone back there) thel lines woudl be shorter, lol. Still, it is so good, that wouldn't keep me away.

I hope I can join you all for some pizza at some point, but my schedule always seems to conflict. Enjoy!

OOPS!

Forgot to look at my own calendar before proposing a date.

I'm supposed to be in DC on the 24th -- the PGMC will perform in a joint concert with the Gay Men's Chorus of Washington that evening.

So I guess this pushes things back to the 3d of March. If nobody has problems with that date, I'll request a calendar posting. PM me to signal interest or alert me to a conflict.

Having gotten a quorum for pizza (which I define as at least three participants), I'm going to say that Saturday, March 3, is a go.

This month's destination: Fairmount.

The adventure starts at 2 p.m. at Illuminare, 2321 Fairmount Avenue.

From there, we will proceed to Rembrandt's, 23d and Aspen streets.

Our third stop will...require just a little more research. A fellow named Kenwyn, one of Katie's co-workers at M, suggested a place called "Fairmount Pizza" when she and I got to discussing the Pizza Club as I had a glass of wine at her bar last night.

A quick search on Citysearch turns up two establishments that serve pizza with "Fairmount" in their name. Fairmount Pizza is at 655 North Broad Street, which puts it at the eastern end of the neighborhood. There is also a place at 20th and Fairmount called the New Fairmount Restaurant that is listed as a pizza place. Both got decent ratings from Citysearch visitors, so I don't think that either of these will be bad, but I'm not certain which of these was Kenwyn's recommendation. Perhaps you can query him on the address, Katie?

I will remind Katie to put this up on the calendar later tonight. If you'd like to join the party and haven't PMed me yet, I'd appreciate it if you could do so. You don't need to PM to participate, but it helps to have an idea of how many will be coming along for the ride in advance. Besides, if we have a large enough group, and enough time, we might be able to add another place and not have to worry about figuring out which Fairmount Pizza is which!

I'll try and find out the address of Fairmount Pizza when I see Kenrick next. Not sure what his schedule is next week, but I'm in every day so I'll undoubtedly see him a some point. I'm sorry I don't remember the address he told us.

I notice some really good food porn pertaining to the pizzas at Osteria over in the topic concerning Marc Vetri's new trattoria.

Which led me to the the following question:

Osteria is at Broad and Fairmount, right? Pizza Clubbers: Should we make it our third stop on March 3rd?

What say you all?

Now that The Fressermobile is officially paid-off, I simply MUST road-trip to the East Coast and serve as the Cholesterol Caravan as Pizza Clubbers make their rounds.

My PT Cruiser even has a nifty tailgating shelf that will support pizza and libations.

I can seat four comfortably, and remember: KatieLoeb calls shotgun!

Where were you when we did our South Philly swing late last summer?

This would have been the perfect vehicle for our Wolf Street Pizza run.

Thanks Fresser. But Pizza Club needs to be planned on one of my days off. Sadly, not this time, but I'm looking forward to the reports and pictures. Someone has to be in charge of the camera...

bump up...

Just a friendly reminder that we're on for tomorrow, March 3.

The excursion starts at 2 at Illuminare.

Since it looks like we need to make Osteria when it opens, we may be wolfing down the pizza at Rembrandt's. Unless, that is, everyone's comfortable with the prospect of eating at the bar at Osteria.

I'm pretty sure you won't get a table without a reservation at Osteria, especially on a Saturday night. There should be room at the bar if you get there between 5 and 5:30.

This just in: With all but two of the confirmed participants unable to make it tomorrow, I think it best that this excursion be rescheduled.

Y'all wanna check your calendars for March 24, same time, same itinerary?

Happily, I will basking in the sun of St Croix starting that very day, replacing my ardent pizza jones with one for jerk chicken, spiny lobster, butterfish, roti and Cruzan Estate rum. And superbbeer from the Ft Cristian brewpub.

I am sorry to be missing yet another Pizza Club.

So what's the word for the 24th? Is the latest pizza tour still on?

As of now, no, unless I hear from someone besides you. Right now, it's just you and me on that day.

And with my partner on strike, I need to watch my expenditures. I'm open to suggestions for alternate dates. (I will be out of town from April 3-10.)

Okay, April 25 is next Wednesday, and I might have a little change to spare after all is said and done. However, I will want to wait until after I've taken my partner out for his 63d birthday (which is today) to nail down a date for sure.

Nonetheless, I would greatly appreciate hearing from the regulars and wannabe regulars about dates in the next three weeks after the 25th that might work for them. With those in hand, we might be able to get to Fairmount--and to Osteria now that everyone else and their dog has already been.

major bump:

The 25th again approaches. Since the last update, Craig LaBan's given Osteria three bells, which means we will have a Dickens of a time getting into the place, probably, but that should not deter us from completing a Fairmount trek.

I imagine most of you are otherwise occupied this Memorial Day weekend -- if not, please correct me right away, especially if you are available on the day itself -- but would Saturday, June 2, or Sunday, June 3, work?

I'm for Saturday, June 2 to include Osteria at 5pm for egged pizza dessert.
