Suggest a good side vegetable, please

We made Salmon with Scotch Bonnet-Herb Sauce and Onion Toasts last night. The recipe is from the October Food and Wine. The dish was delicious - my SO served it with a side of steamed white rice. However, a meal is not complete to me unless there is a vegetable. What would you serve that does not compete with the sauce?

Well, kinda pedestrian, maybe, but i love asparagus with seafood, and i think that'd be neutral enough while still being tasty.

Not a vegetable, but i've been wanting to try Roasted Grapes. These are seedless grapes, roasted on the vine in olive oil, salt and pepper. Would look pretty on the plate, as well.

Has anyone ever actually seen a bandit making out?

Uh-huh: just as I thought. Stereotyping.

Yeah, my go-to veg for seafood is spinach, which has just enough flavor to stand on its own but not to overpower anything else on the plate. But then, too, there's broccoli and its relatives. And zucchini. And peas (well, if you don't mind frozen at this time of year in the U.S.).

What I can't see with that dish are:

Mushrooms (too assertive) Well, maybe they're not so bad (see helenjp downthread)

Corn (color :hmmm: )

Tomatoes (color  )
