Apparently instead of preparing the shark over the grill, Rocco and Jeffrey decided to jump it instead.

Well done! Welcome to E-G Sbriddle!

This is what happens when there is no one to root for on a tv show. I will watch it if ends up on CourtTV.

No doubt that will be remedied by the addition of Ted McGinley as the "D."

Did some searching for why it isn't on tonight, found this...

The Restaurant Temporarily Cancelled

In a press release NBC has announced that The Restaurant has been cancelled; temporarily. The show will rejoin the network's schedule on Wednesday, June 9th at 9e/p. NBC is planning to rerun the three second season episodes that have already aired and then run the final two episodes.

The last aired show, Episode 3, was very unsatisfying. It didn't move the story forward at all. Worse, the closing poignant scene of Rocco looking through the window at his mama is setting the stage for the hero (whoever it is) to rise from rock bottom and be triumphantly restored.

I've come to the disappointing conclusion that there will never be an "Ending" to this melodrama. I'm not blind to the REAL Reality that's not on the five month network time delay, that being the lawsuit that hasn't been settled. That pretty much guarantees there will be no closure on the TV show. The series will end with a "To be continued..." teaser, yet it won't be continued. All the threads will be left hanging.

And I never did get to see the kitchen in action and get the feel for how a real restaurant kitchen functions. I'd be better off if a chef installs a live webcam in their kitchen. Any takers?

Christ. I watched an early episode (the premiere?) of this show. As soon as Rocco said "make sure everyone gets a Coors Light" (the fifth product placement in as many minutes) I changed the channel and haven't watched since. HBO needs a cooking channel. I cannot stomach commercial television.

The Restaurant Temporarily Cancelled

Yeah, it's a crying shame. I was having such fun making fun of the show in the weekly Hot Topics.

It's odd though... I appreciated the show MUCH more this season than last. I mean it STILL wasn't really about how a restaurant actually works, but at least it wasn't a bunch of manufacturered Front-of-the-House drama. Then again, maybe that's what people want to see.

Mark Burnett has a "similar" show coming on about the Golden Nugget Casino. It will be interesting to see how much of that show is about actual business and how much is about cocktail waitresses and croupiers making out in the coat check room.

Rocco is on Craig Kilborn's annoying show tonight. I'm betting the cancelation of his show won't be mentioned. Heck, I'll bet Rocco's as a whole won't even be mentioned.

Jeez. I've been in the rest.biz for most of the last 32 years (25 of em in NYC) and hence claim a certain amount of expertise in the field. About the only thing truly realistic is the "types" who popultate my industry. The drama quotiest, clearly scripted by the way, would never be tolerated. By the same token, the notion of a waitron being canned for taking a drink with a customer is rqually ludicrous. Alchohol is the lubricant that keeps the restaurant engine turning. Having your aging mom sweating it out in the basement making meatballs everyday??? For that alone Rocco should burn. The most genuine moments have come recently, when Rocco gets squeezed by his backers. (My favorite episode hands down!!!)

What i'm wondering is "How did Culinary Institue of America get conned into letting this evil little ewok do a commencement adress???"

Has america gone so reality TV crazy that they'd rather watch dinner than eat it???

Rocco obviously has good publicists. He pops up everywhere (except the kitchen!) I think I saw him as a presenter at the Daytime Emmies Show last night. I was just flipping channels, and there he was with the woman from Trading Spaces.

Have to take issue, though with the comment about alcohol being the lubricant of the restaurant business. Thank goodness that is not an accepted "standard" anymore. The restaurant chain that I worked for would definitely dismiss an employee for drinking on the job - with a customer or not. Now, after the shift is another story. Yes, many restaurant workers still seem to spend a fair amount of time indulging!

I thought it was neat seeing Rocco at CIA, but I also question relevance of Momma getting recognition - think that's more of Rocco's publicity people doing their work.

strangely enough, flipping through the channels the other morning, i saw him on wayne brady (the k-1 fights had finished on espn and....well, i guess there's really no excuse.) anyhow, i couldn't tear my eyes away as the two of them commiserated on their bad luck (wayne brady's been cancelled?!) pumped up mama and made meatballs together, while discussing choderow and the vagaries of fame. good publicist, indeed....someone should lock him up for the next 3 months before he does any more damage.

Seems like I heard Emeril called an "Ewok" too...do you guys call all male chefs that? or just the ones you don't like at the moment?

Oh, and alchohol may be the lubricant that keeps a restaurant going, but not when the HIRED help indulge...

THE LAST COURSE: NBC has decided to dump the remaining episodes of The Restaurant on a night when most people will be holed up in a real restaurant. Episodes 4 and 5 will air this Saturday at 8 and 9 pm/ET, respectively, and the series finale will run on Saturday, June 5 at 8 pm/ET.

The premiere only got 6.5 million viewers (less than a third of the audience for Survivor or The Apprentice), and it's all been downhill from there.

Yeah, I just saw this on a schedule. I don't think NBC is even bothering with commercials anymore.

Quite a comedown from the original hype and extravagant attention the show initially garnered. Perhaps one season of Rocco would have been sufficient ... and NBC is no doubt just trying to last through the end of the series with no monetary damage ... Pity ...

I'd guess they (NBC and Burnett) are seriously regretting their decision to go with a 2nd season of Rocco instead of finding another restaurant to build the show around.

Well, NBC is a collective bunch of idiots for scheduling the show at 10pm on a Monday night, opposite "CSI: Miami" on CBS. Wasn't the first season shown on Sunday night's at 10? Whatever day it was, the first season had a much better time slot.

This season the tension is there, the soap opera is there, the product placement is there  ...NBC just blew it by sticking it into a lame-ass time slot.

I have to say Thank You to everyone here. Not having cable and being in a city that doesn't seem to appreciate this kind of brilliant, smarmy entertainment, I've missed all episodes except the first. Which made me cringe with delight. It was so awful. This thread has updated me on all the happenings and more. Wonderful! I am so thrilled that I found this site!

referring to the waitress who got fired for alcohol consumption. I thought that it was mentioned that she was under the legal drinking age on the show. That is in my opinion sufficient grounds for a dismissal. I have worked a couple of years in the bar business in the past and it is a definite no no for minors to consume or even handle/serve alcohol. (at least in my state of residence)

I have had many a drink with an "of age" bartender or server, although frowned upon generally is overlooked, so I understand that point of view (that it is acceptable). But if she was underage then no excuses.

I really enjoyed the show, the soap opera antics enthralled me LOL. Hopefully the cancelled shows will show up somewhere on dvd or something. I hope to open a place myself someday, so any thing regarding the restaurant business, even a poor attempt, is of interest to me. You can still learn from other people's mistakes.
