At varmint's lunch today, sherri and I decided we want to go on a quest for the best affordable burger in the city. Affordable is my idea, but she can go where she likes.

We're starting out at Molly's.

Anyone want to come? Once a month? Every two weeks?

(Corner Bistro fans welcomed and encouraged).

Woo-hoo!

I doubt I could ever bring myself to buy any of the $50 burgers in this city, so yes, affordable is key. When it comes to burgers, I think $10 is my limit. Otherwise, I'd just get steak. :raz:

Burger Club is open to suggestions.

I will say that is someone pipes in with "x burger at X place sucks on the weekends" I vote that place is out on the weekend. Agreed?

I'll join the quest. Burgers are something I've travelled far for; just try to find the best closest to work, home, the Garden, etc.

Cafe Luxemburg on W 71 makes a good one.

Fries are also part of the burger experience. Can we do search for both burger and fries? Maybe we should specify no ketchup for tasting. I love the sweet, salty taste of ketchup and have been guilty of using other food as a ketchup delivery medium.

Fries are incidental in my book. I love them like anything, but can we make that a separate quest? Unless they're a sub-category.

I always taste my burger without ketchup. If it's good, I use no ketchup. Which means I always have ketchup. A LOT of it.

Somehow, I've never much liked hamburgers, so I guess I'm out. Have fun!

I'd like to try Luger's burger, and McHale's too.

How much is a Luger burger?

I think it's about $6, and only available at lunch.

Heh. I'm not necessarily saying I will, it's just that once the price hits $10 for beef, I better not be eating the ground variety.

i would say that even at 12 dollars, you're getting an inexpensive meal.

So, strictly in terms of the stated mission of this elite club, what will determine the best burger. Or is it like porn, you will know it when you eat it?

Would take all the fun out of it, but you could simply make the pilgramage to Jersey, fill up the counter at White Manna and put a quick end to your noble quest.

Well, I'm a newbie to the site, but this sounds fun, is definitely in my price range and is within my range of expertise. So count me in (probably with my partner as well...) if that's OK.
