On the spur of the moment, I have decided to invest some of my annual bonus, such that it is, on a short trip to New York next week. I would love to say hello to my American chums, so if anyone is up for a get together of some sort I would be delighted to have the opportunity to meet up and "sink a few brewskis" as I believe the common argot has it (sorry, I seem to have come over unnecessarily British all of a sudden. Don't worry, I'm not really like this). I'm arriving Thursday pm and returning home Sunday evening and am looking forward to meeting you.

What time Thursday PM are you arriving? That would be the logical evening to pull a group together for drinks -- or maybe even a field trip to Sripraphai or some such.

Hey can we pick a place where brewskis don't cost $12 each? Somebody pull up the dirty-disgusting-dive-bars thread and find us a suitably non-gastropub-ish dump.

$12 beers and I'm out. About a week ago I had some pretty good Guinness at Kennedy's on 57th St. Not a dive, but not Le Bar Bat. I have no real preferences.

I think Herbacidal will be in town Friday and Saturday too. It's on the 2003 Restaurant week thread which I can't link to at the moment.

If you can get the price of a beer low enough, I might even buy one for Andy. If worse comes to worse, we can all chip in and buy him a glass of Bud lite so he doesn't leave thinking we're cheap.

count me in. i like the Charlie Mingus big band at the Fez thursdays. the beers prolly aren't more than 10, but the cover is. Why not bring Heston ?

Druids on (50th) 10th Ave. is not-a-dive has a courtyard in the back, and some drafts.

For mohitos I'd go to Cafe Frida by the AMNH, or Fusion (54th & 10th). Or how about a Cigar-bars (If such beasts are in existence, a single-malt would not be a bad idea ?)

If you want a serious dive bar go to Subway on 60th across from the Bloomingdale's loading dock.

$12 will keep you drinking all night.
