Alan and I went to the Kosher Nosh in Glenrock.

Had a lovely lunch. We had a combination corned beef and pastrami on rye sandwich with Russian dressing on the side. They have coleslaw, pickles and other salad items in the back of the restaurant; we combined some of the coleslaw and Russian dressing on the sandwich. Accompanied by kashka varnishkes with gravy on the side.

Both things were very nice. Thinking fondly of it now; still have some of the sandwich and kashka in my refrigerator.

Good place to explore the menu and make your stomach happy. <s>

After being snowed in yesterday I wanted to start the week out right today!

For lunch from Picnic in Emerson: “The Paint and Paper” — also known as a Godfather. Fresh mozzarella, roast beef, jus, garlic butter on a round roll. $6.50

AND (for lunch tomorrow)

“Emerson Dental” — grilled chicken breast, whole wheat bread, avocado, lettuce, tomato hint of fat free dressing. $6 * My version -regular tomato (due to allergies! and instead with sundried tomato and some smoky bacon YUMMY!)  :biggrin:

Tomorrow we go out for a little buffet lunch in Hackensack on the border the little chinese/italian all you can eat joint with my co-workers.  :wub:

We all ended up going to Bhoj for lunch today, instead of the dynasty - it was superb as usual... shame that readables like the NYT and other periodicals doesn't have a review on it yet from what the owner mentioned today! The Star Ledger however did review it fairly recently... :wub:

All alone tonight, stopped at Whole Foods in Montclair. Kid at hockey and wife at Mah Jung club.

Had a craving for crab cakes, and I thought they would go great with a bottle of a Wieninger Austrian Wine I had waiting for me in the fridge.

But they were out so picked the clams casino, big ones on a scallop shell. I love clams casino.

A nice creamy cole slaw and pureed orange squash.

Delicious.

You might want to try this $10.00 wine Wine Library or Amanti Vino in Montclair.

Went to Bhoj yesterday for lunch for the first time. The buffet was a nice selection- chicken curry, channa masala, paneer makhani, tandoori chicken, dal, pappadum and assorted dips were among the selections.

Apart from the tandoori chicken being a bit dry and the naan a bit greasy, I thought their interpretations quite nice, particularly the chicken curry, the channa masala, and the makhani.

They got a write up in the Star Ledger that knocked their rice pudding. Alan very much liked it. We both thought you can't compare it to an american rice pudding, it's a different animal. This had nice milky flavor with little slivered almonds. almost tapioca like in its nature.

The mango lassi was delicious and not overly yogurty as I have found in others that I have tried. The tea flavored like a strong chai was also good(once I got it). <s> The drinks were extra.

They change their selections daily and for $7.95 for their lunch buffet, you can't really go wrong. The flavors pop in your mouth here and that's a good thing. Their management aims to please and is on the ball. So this is looks like a good bet for exploration and very receptive to diner input.

Today Monday, I had my leftovers from Silver Oak Bistro as my supper... the delicious duck nuked up perfect and the shoestring potatoes! Then I had the funny pancakes I got from 318 Broad in Palisades park for my dessert well... 2 out of the 3 they were delicious like french toast or something? It was like potato pancakes type taste with brown sugar/cinnamon or something like that inside very VERY tasty when rewarmed up!

Tuesday I may order or make somethin from the fridge.... let you know soon! :cool:

I went to Bhoj for the first time a few weeks ago for lunch. I thought it was great. The food was delicious and the owner and the rest of the staff (I guess most of the staff are family of the owner) were friendly, attentive and gracious. This was just after the review appeared in The Record, and it got pretty busy. I hope they do well, they deserve it. I will definitely be back!

Hubby called in from the road last night asking if I'd like him to bring "something delicious" home...which means he's driving past Harold's NY deli. So dinner last night was turkey on rye w/russian dressing and a little slaw, sour pickles, plus 1/4 of a monstrous potato knish. Whew, I was thirsty all night!

took my dangerous dining companion, 'chelle, out for her birthday lunch at Plaza Bistro in Sparta. it has changed owners though the name is still the same and it is still byo.

the new owner is latvian and the lunch menu and the starters reflect that.

for lunch you can order off that menu or any of the soups. 'chelle ordered the stuffed cabbage with a side of pan roasted vegetables. i ordered the meatballs (stuffed into pasta) which are poached in vegetable broth then served in butter with sourcream and a side of rice pilaf that came formed into a small cake. i could only eat half and have the other half for my dinner tonight.

an amuse of a seafood puff came out. it was light, puffy and ethereal - and devoured. there was also a basket of warm bread. iwanted to order the borscht or the spicy lamb soup (both offered at 5.00) but knew how much food would be coming out for our lunch.

service is fairly relaxed as usually there is only the owner and one other kitchen worker in at noon.

total for two lunches with tax 18.02

Nothing is better than frying in lard.

Isn't this supposed to be a thread about food to take out?

Ideally about take out/delivery or pick-up, I won't balk if folks talk about where they dined for lunch or supper since I don't run the forums! LOL :laugh: I took out from Bhoj as well as ate there last week but I didn't mention that we took out 1 pound of various good foods for friends! YUM.

Today I ordered (being Wednesday) from Picnic in Emerson. I ordered for lunch and supper, the thai sandwich special and the rustic italiano both sound fantastic!

Tomorrow I will be picking up from boston market since I'm in the mood for comfort foods this week. How about you Menton and everyone else what did you pick up or order today ? :raz:

Updated 135PM - I ate half of each, it was hard to decide since both tasted really good! The bread (one was an "olive bread" with nice black olives and a whole-wheat type flavor to it... real nice!) was superb as well - Christine mentioned that the bread was from a bakery called Balthezar? or something... :cool:

I am really looking forward to supper in 5 hours - if I have the room! These were delicious and filling, I may have to do an extra 15 minutes of exercise in the pool.

Since it said "Meals OUT" I assumed it was anything purchased from a restaurant (and either eaten there or taken home) and not cooked at home.

ETA: oops - the first thread referred only to takeout, so yep, menton, you're right!

Went to Picnic today, there amidst what looked like a wild flurry of activity toward a catering job.

Picked up a tomato and cheddar quiche-so light and eggy, atop a mixed green salad with a nice dressing. It was accompanied by a smooth potato bisque-like soup, also quite tasty.

We also had the chicken noodle soup which had a lovely broth with big pieces of chicken, noodles, carrots and celery. We finished with barbecued beef shortribs with a wonderful sauce and purple garlic mashed potatoes that were buttery and great. A winning combo.

I'm very jealous having skipped lunch to go to Mt. Fuji* tonight. (I need room to eat there!) I was eyeing the ribs on their menu today and thought mmm should i get it for tom'w and I thought nah, tomorrow's another day, but she's CLOSED!

*See my comments in the NY forum.

She's catering tom'w so it's leftovers for me! ::whine:: :hmmm:

I have had the occasion recently to order several items from Cafe Serene (Mt. Pleasant Avenue in Livingston). They do have a delivery service, I am not sure the range and exact cost, but you could call them.

Everything was good but the things I had that really stood out - some of these are off the 'daily specials' list - which seems pretty constant - so I don't have a written description in front of me for them:

The Fettuccini Special with smoked bacon, asparagus, tomatoes and other yummy stuff

The Salmon Croquette, you've got to try the sauce!

The Daily Special Salad with pecans, and fruit (and other things I can't recall!)

A make your own pasta dish we had with their Caper/Anchovy/Roasted Garlic sauce, really, really yummy!!

The Tilapia fish and chips were pretty good too even though they were a bit soggy from the transport, a much better choice for dining in I'd guess.
