Food-medicine pairings

News item from Reuters recently
Taking certain cholesterol-lowering drugs at the same time as grapefruit juice can increase the risk of potentially life-threatening muscle toxicity, British regulators warned on Tuesday..... the risk was greatest with Merck & Co Inc's Zocor, or simvastatin, which recently went on sale without prescription in Britain, and Pfizer Inc's Lipitor

I guess this certainly qualifies for food and medicine news alerts!

My wife's Lipitor has that warning on it and I've seen other drugs with warnings about grapefruit juice.

I've had to take two doses of hydrocodone (codeine) syrup.

Hydrocodone is the generic term for Vicodin a step below Percadan on the narcodics scale and several up from codeine. It will change how food tastes.

Living hard will take its toll...

I haven't found that my sense of taste has changed after taking a dose of Hydrocodone. Perhaps one would need to take more than the recommended dose of 1 teaspoon in 4-6 hours for it to have that effect, or perhaps it has that effect on some people and not others (as is true of lots of side and even main effects).
