I think New York needs to be the bagel. but, I also think New York needs sub-divisions: Manhattan, Bronx, Brooklyn, Queens, and the rest of the state.

Even though Atlanta has become quite cosmopolitan now (see Blais with its 31 course tasting menu!), more traditional Atlanta favorites would definitely be fried chicken and cornbread and blackeyed peas .. all decidedly indigenous to the town since it was unceremoniously burned down in the "wa-wah" (Civil War, ya'll!!)

All the above washed down with our local favorite beverage: Coca Cola!!

Grits!! OMG, how could I ever leave that out??

Question for Tommy...

I'm born-and-raised New Jersey (northern) but I don't know what a "Pork Roll" is; ate plenty of hot dogs including the deep-fried versions.

Toasted Ravioli (deep fried ravioli served with marinara sauce for dipping)

Pork Steaks (a slice of pork shoulder grilled with bbq sauce, a summer cookout staple that can only be found there)

St. Louis Style Pizza (Thin crisp crust, with Provel cheese cut into squares)
