Napa Valley Grille in Garden State Plaza Paramus has a great menu, great wine list, and a beautiful dark bar for dining alone. This one, in my mind, is an unheralded gem in Bergen.

Is that a national chain? We have a Napa Valley Grille (sic) in Louisville also.

For the record there is no Napa Valley in or near Louisville as far as I know.

not sure if it's a chain. i don't find it very good, though. although it's a decent choice for tonite.

another poster who apparently doesn't want to post sent this in PM:

eat at Tapas De Espana in North Bergen or Migdalia's in Bergenfield for a great Cubano or Fink's or El Gran Mexican in Bogota and that is what came to mind

Saigon Republic in Englewood, since you mentioned ethnic. BYOB though. So small you could latch on to the next table's conversation, like in Europe.

N.B. Napa Valley in GSP is having a special wine dinner tomorrow with Kate MacMurray, daughter of Fred Macmurray, apparently she is a heavy-duty winemaker in California. Disagree with you-- think the place is good, but not great. Beautiful bar area.

yeah, NVG is "good." i just think they should do better. especially at those tariffs. they're not really pushing the envelope, at all.

how about that new fish place in the mall on rt 4? that might be worth a shot.

or gaffer's for a burger?

good ideas so far. keep 'em coming.

We're having reheated leek and potato soup, plus sandwiches garnished with cat hair. Tariff is low. Reservation policy fair. Music courtesy of Satanic neighbor next door.

Tommy--Where did you go?

with an offer like Liza's why would you even ask?

Satanic music, food... what more does one need for dinner?

Apparently it's easier still to dictate the conversation and in effect, kill the conversation.

Oh great, Tommy's thinking about dining with me at The Grill and I'm sitting in Key West.

you poor thing.

the worst part is, he's sitting in key west on a computer.

i ended up at the el grand mexican in bogota. a few others came along, so i didn't have to eat alone. i have to say i was quite pleased with the place.

the "cheap tacos," as i like to refer to them, were outstanding. flavorful meats, onion, cilantro, a bit a cheese. oh man, for 2 bucks, you can't get hurt. now i have a craving for them

Ahh, but I'm drinking coffee at a internet cafe nursing a hangover after dining at Shula's steakhouse, then partying at Sloppy Joe's and other assorted bars.

Dinner tonight at Louie's Backyard for sunset with the lovely Susanne.

Now I have to go and get some sun.

Ahh, Louies Backyard. Nothing beats dining on the patio, overlooking the ocean as the sun sets. One of the most romantic restaurants in southern FL. Been there many times, always request the patio as im sure you know. Enjoy.

went to el grand mexican, again. seems like the perfect place to go when you have no plans. and no friends.

i think i like the skirt steak the tacos the best out of all of the tacos. the chicken might come in at #2, although it's pretty close btwn the chix and the pork.
