Fuchsia Dunlop has announced she has a new book completed and in the pipeline. Invitation to a Banquet - The Story of Chinese Food. Publication date below. The cover illustration below is for the UK edition.

 

She has pointed out that "it’s just culture and doesn’t include any recipes at all!"

So today is (UK) publication day! I started writing this book properly at my brother and sister-in-law’s table during the first pandemic lockdown, dreaming of China, and here it is. Hope it makes you very hungry. It’s also available as an audio book read by me. US/Australia publication in early November, Chinese edition next year (my fab translator He Yujia 何雨珈 is hard at work!). 食在中国

Fuchsia is going to be reading five short excerpts from the book on BBC radio, starting tomorrow (Monday), Sept 5th, 09:45 British time. If things go as usual, they will all be avaliable on 'listen again' on the BBC Radio 4 page.

Thanks a bunch for sharing this!
I just listened to the first 4 episodes and am saving the final episode for later. I didn’t search to see if an audio book with Fuchsia reading is in the works but, if so, it will be a delight to listen to. I tend to race along when reading and this is writing that deserves to be savored.  Her pace and pauses allow for that beautifully.
