Well here's an interesting bit of insight into consumer opinions. The blog is from a prof at Purdue, and there's a link in the blog post to the underlying research paper. The part that's highlighted here in the blog post is a survey of consumer attitudes toward beef vs. plant-based alternatives, cell-cultured meat and lab-grown meat (the latter are the same, but researchers wanted to see if the differing labels translated to differing perceptions). Most of the responses were pretty predictable, but one of them simply floored me: 38% of respondents rated beef above meat-based substitutes for animal welfare.

Not sure what kind of mental gymnastics go into that...

@chromedome

very interesting chart , thanks for posting it.

cell//lab  results were about the same.

that suggests the sample knew they were the same , hopefully.

or it might be that there has been no0 pressing economic reason

for very large financial interests to spin one over the other.

very large financial interests are for sure spinning fake vs real ' meat 'even way they can.

concern for animal welfare guiding one's choices for food is not new.

before the very recent advent of fake meat , along with health concerns

moved some to vegetarian-ism.

I doubt the advent of fake meat moved many to vegetarianism. .

apro ordering an egg white omelette in Brentwood , because its the thing to do.

P.S.:    the group got the Taste right .

The numbers are, on the whole, slightly better for "lab-grown" as opposed to "cell-cultured," the latter of which is now (just recently) the officially-preferred nomenclature. Go figure.

correct .   not a ' significant '  as they say, difference .

maybe some of that comes from :

no deep insight to either .

after all :   animal welfare  //  environment //  Hormone

this  is what we all know :

if we don't really know ''' what has been shown '''

we are all subject , these days , to   ' buzzz '

internet Posts ( not here ! ) , butyl over the place .

I was told one solid point for ' fake meat '

if you were observant  ( kosher )   you could order it

at a restaurant . if you were feeling ' burger-ish '

nothing really that new here :

https://nypost.com/2023/08/11/fake-meat-is-failing-because-its-gross-and-unhealthy/

a bit of 'piling on ' , , hey why not

but this line put a smile on my face :

'''    In New York City, steakhouses, not plant parlors, stand at the top of the restaurant food-chain '''

So , NYC has Plant Parlors ?  at the bottom ?  today's  Speak easy ?

and BTW :  has anyone tried ' Beyond Sausage ? '    lived to tell about it ?

interesting update :

https://www.bonappetit.com/story/impossible-indulgent-burger-is-it-good

early in the article :

''  According to Impossible, 82% of its early tasters said that the Indulgent Burger tasted“as good as or better than ground beef from cows,” ''

well , if its on the internet , it has to be true , right ?

however its possible the early testers were early investors .

very interesting article.

interesting intellectual and conceptual problem .

the approach is a bit fascinating , all those little tubes , sucking up ...

a raw protein mash ?  i.e. not cooked as in ' those burgers '

a raw offering seems a targeted option .

do they radiate the stuff ?

if they expect me to enjoy the tubules raw

other stuff floating around might chow in .

Beyond Meat is an interesting ' study '

there is the company , the investors , and the product .

bynd.thumb.jpg.14ba5cd531f2ee3aa7ac30c86641ef26.jpg

stock price may or may not correlate w the company , or its products .

https://finance.yahoo.com/news/beyond-meat-cuts-non-production-134432280.html

and many other articles that are not click - bait suggest an underling problem

that its product is and may always be more expensive in the supermarket

than what it hopeS to surplant .    and its not very tasty to boot.

stock $$ 62 initially , a high of $$ 230, now about $ 7 .

Good points. Ultimately it is super-processed food. Hard to see the merit
