Tales From My Travels: New Orleans 2015

Here is the account of my girls' weekend trip to New Orleans to celebrate Mardi Gras.

As soon as we landed in New Orleans and checked in our hotel, we jetted out to find food... so hungry!

Thankfully, our hotel was at a prime location, just by two of the most renown oyster joints in the city: Acme Oyster House ( Felix's restaurant (http://www.felixs.com).

Although we did eat at both, we only took photos at Acme:

For oyster too, we recommend sitting at the Bourbon House oyster bar:

But we did try a breakfast po' boy at Stanley's, also renown for brunch (http://www.stanleyrestaurant.com''>http://www.stanleyrestaurant.com'>http://www.stanleyrestaurant.com).

As a musical city, jazz is very much present absolutely everywhere! 

The Irving Mayfield Playhouse is a great little lounge to share a charcuterie platter with wine or just a glass of bourbon, and just enjoy a 'smooth' evening.

We found some recipes posted in a street of the French Quarter that we have not yet tried.

And we quickly learned that besides oysters, crawfish is a food in New Orleans cuisine, prepared in many different ways.NOLA 10.jpg

Yep, I actually prefer New Orleans during Jazz Fest rather than Mardi Gras. All of the great food and music, much less of the springbreak-esque PARTY!!! crowd.

It's kinda like wrestling a gorilla... you don't stop when you're tired, you stop when the gorilla is tired.

My favorite time to go to NO is during Easter weekend... the weather is perfect, and it's prime crawfish and oyster season - and, unlike Jazzfest weekend, it's not nearly as crowded or expensive.

I haven't been to Louisiana in about 17 years so I actually don't know what any of the events are like now, Jazz Fest used to be pretty laid back though. Mardi Gras was fun, just in a different way. The food is good anytime, and making it where I live is difficult due to ingredient availability. I make my own Andouille and Tasso but good fresh seafood, and crawfish of any type, fresh or frozen, are a nope. A picture tour is always nice though, thanks for sharing!
