Recipe Ideas for Fresh Bartlett Pears

Recommended Posts

I was just gifted with a small basket full of freshly picked Bartlett pears. Any unique ideas on how I might incorporate them into simple summer recipes?

Lately I have been using fruit in entrees and salads and love the combinations, so I am looking for more ideas.

I'm a big fan of slicing them about 1/8 - 3/16" thick, then season with s&p, and saute in butter... once the butter starts to brown, add a bit of cognac and flame on! Finished witha bit of tarragon... mmmmmmmm.... nothing like the combo of butter, black pepper, cognac and tarragon.... oh yeah, and the pears!

I love this recipe, from Gourmet/Epicurious. It calls for Bosc pears, but I've made it successfully with Bartletts. It gives a choice of Manchego or goat cheese, but I've always used the latter.

You can use them in soups too... you can cook watercress and a few pears together and blitz them in a blender. This is even better with blue cheese croutons.

That sounds wonderful! I am going to try it.

I love pears and Bartlett's are my favorite  . I was just recently looking for pear recipes too~ I have a beautiful picture of a pear and custard tart that I made last year; if I can ever figure out how to post photos here I will post it  .

I found a salad of greens, candied pecans, blue cheese and a roasted pear dressing that sounds good.

I made this tart also and it was delicous as well as beautiful~
