  1. "Stacy’s Pita Chips recalled due to undeclared milk ingredient in some bags"
  2. Saw this on TechBargains.com this morning: KitchenAid FGA Food Grinder Attachment $26.35 which is 59% off the regular price. Don't know how long the sale will last. This is for the grinding plates and doesn't seem to include the sausage stuffing attachments.
  3. Two from this afternoon...one slightly higher priced that's been on sale before: Alaska from Scratch blogger Maya Wilson's "The Alaska from Scratch Cookbook: Seasonal. Scenic. Homemade" Kindle Edition $1.99US There some sample recipes on this cookbook's Amazon info page. And the slightly higher-priced cookbook that has been on sale before: Alice Waters' "Chez Panisse Pasta, Pizza, & Calzone: A Cookbook (Chez Panisse Cookbook Library)" Kindle Edition $3.99US I am a US Prime member and the price you see may vary.
  4. "Pilgrim’s Pride Corporation Recalls Breaded Popcorn Chicken Products Due To Possible Foreign Matter Contamination" Contact phone numbers and web links for more information are provided near the end of the article. Is it just me or don't there seem to be a lot of "contamination" recalls happening lately? I guess it's better they find them to report than for us to find out on our own.

"Eat Like a Gilmore: The Unofficial Cookbook for Fans of Gilmore Girls" Kindle Edition $1.99US I am a US Prime member and the price you see may vary.
  6. "Publix recalls deli popcorn chicken over 'foreign material' concerns" And for any eGer's in Europe: "Beef scare: Polish bad meat spreads to 11 EU states"
  7. This is NOT a food recall but is a warning issued by Consumer Reports on heavy metals found in popular juice drinks (bottles/boxes/pouches) in the US: "Arsenic and Lead Are in Your Fruit Juice: What You Need to Know" This is eye opening, to say the least. Some of the tested juices had high enough levels to be considered harmful to adults. There's a panel of pictures at the bottom of the article showing the familiar products tested from familiar stores/brands.
  8. One found this afternoon: 2018 IACP Cookbook Award nominee for Compilations "The Grand Central Market Cookbook: Cuisine and Culture from Downtown Los Angeles" Kindle Edition $2.99US I am a US Prime member and the price you see may vary.
  9. And the recalls never seem to stop coming, which is a good thing, I guess. From the USDA recall web site: "Tyson Foods, Inc. Recalls Chicken Nugget Products due to Possible Foreign Matter Contamination"

    KFC 2012–

"KFC's Cheetos Sandwich Is Testing In Several States — Here's Where To Find It" The photo of this new sandwich looks...interesting. One would think this would have been a natural Taco Bell food item given their Dorito taco shells and Frito Burritos. Perhaps it's a untapped market for KFC.
  11. I thought it was interesting that they didn't have extra flour on the tables when pulling noodles. It was as if when they got to the point of pulling the noodles, the time to add flour was past. Thank you for posting this video.
  12. My question is do the contestants consult recipes? Or are they supposed to know how to whip up a sponge cake from memory?
  13. "Perdue Recalling 16,011 Pounds Of Ready-To-Eat Chicken Nuggets Due To Undeclared Allergens" See the article for specifics/states involved. There's a phone number at the end of the article to call for more information.
  14. I am amazed at how well carrots and cumin go together. I roasted carrots using the Roasted Cauliflower method with lots of cumin. The aroma while roasting was wonderful but when I went to eat them, the cumin was oddly quite subdued. This soup sounds delicious and is a nice color. The blend of spices sounds intriguing. It makes me wonder how it tastes hot. Thanks for posting.
  15. Two to post this morning: "Spinach Recall 2019: How Can You Get A Refund?" Further details regarding specific products and codes are in the article. "Recall: Fruit sold at Aldi stores [and Walmart and Costco] in NC may be contaminated with Listeria"

    Sonic Drive-In

"Sonic Drive-In adds county fair favorite deep-fried Oreos to menu"

    Oreo Cookies

I bought a package, too, this weekend. But I haven't opened them, yet. Thanks for the report!
  18. Slim pickin's this afternoon: Michael Pollan's "Food Rules: An Eater's Manual" Kindle Edition $1.99US "Grand Forks: A History of American Dining in 128 Reviews" Kindle Edition $1.99US Like it says in the title, it's a collection of restaurant reviews revealing the changes in American Dining over the years. "Brother Jimmy's BBQ: More Than 100 Recipes for Pork, Beef, Chicken, & the Essential Southern Sides" Kindle Edition $2.99US The author is the owner of Brother Jimmy's BBQ in NY. Negative reviews say the recipes are not all related to southern BBQ. Also, 100 recipes is a little skimpy, IMHO. I am a US Prime member and the price you see may vary.
  19. Thank you both! I appreciate it.
  20. The pizza sauce looks wonderful. Do you make your own? Or is there a store brand your prefer? Welcome back!
  21. Reviving an old topic to post that the February 2019 Issue of Southern Living magazine has a nice article titled "Women on Fire". Written by SL's BBQ Editor Robert Moss, the article is about 9 women "from pitmasters and cooks to entrepreneurs and teachers, lighting a new spark in Southern barbecue culture." I think it's a good read and certainly speaks to the changing BOH in what has always seemed a man's domain.
  22. I found this article fascinating... "Plants can smell, now researchers know how" Years ago I read an article on tomatoes that claimed when a tomato plant was under attack by pests, the plant could release a chemical/scent that alerted nearby tomato plants about the pests. Then the plants would change their chemistry so any bugs dining on the plants would not get any sustaining nutrition and eat themselves to death, basically. This new article's information as to how this "signalling" happens was enlightening for me and I thought I would share it with the rest of the class.
  23. I know General Mills flour had its own flour recall discussion previously but I thought I would post the most recent recall here since it's more of an umbrella discussion: "General Mills Recalls 5-Pound Bags Of Flour" There are more specific instructions in the article regarding what to look for on the flour's printed material. There is also a phone number provided in case anyone has further questions for General Mills regarding the recall/product.
  24. Reviving this ancient discussion to post something new coming: "Cookie Dough Lovers: Ben & Jerry’s Three New Flavors Have Massive Cookie Dough Cores" The article has descriptions of the new ice cream flavors with a cut-away photo of each flavor. I'm in!
  25. "McDonald’s Bacon Hour lets you “put a bacon on it” for free" Just an FYI for all you bacon lovers out there...
