From this afternoon's browsings: Not a cookbook but how to select and grow great tomatoes... Craig LeHoullier's "Epic Tomatoes: How to Select and Grow the Best Varieties of All Time" Kindle Edition $2.51US There are a lot of positive reviews for this book. One of the reviews said this next book seemed like a cookbook from the '70's because it didn't have any photos. That being said, it has quite a number of positive reviews: "Classic Sourdoughs, Revised: A Home Baker's Handbook" Kindle Edition $1.99US Use the "Look Inside" feature to see the list of recipes. I am a US Prime member and the price you see may vary.

I see the requisite 6 french fries. But I think you should get a few more since you've shorted yourself with rather short fries.

"Ground beef sold at Meijer stores recalled because it may contain pieces of plastic" The emphasis of the states is mine. The article lists specific product codes.

This may have been previously posted some time ago. I keep seeing it on Amazon and the price can't be beat: Saiphin Moore's "Rosa's Thai Cafe: The Cookbook" Kindle Edition $.99US I am a US Prime member and the price you see may vary. Edited to add more sale-priced cookbooks that just came in my TASTE email. I believe they have all been previously posted...some, a while ago: "Alton Brown: EveryDayCook: A Cookbook" Kindle Edition $2.99US "The Mac + Cheese Cookbook: 50 Simple Recipes from Homeroom, America's Favorite Mac and Cheese Restaurant" Kindle Edition $2.99US "The Hot Bread Kitchen Cookbook: Artisanal Baking from Around the World" Kindle Edition $2.99US Slightly pricier... Momofuku's "Milk Bar Life: Recipes & Stories" Kindle Edition $3.99US

For those of you in Southern California (which includes parts of the Central Valley), did you know when you order food from Pizza Hut, they charge you a service fee? It doesn't matter if you order online or eat in or carryout your order. You get charged a service fee every time. When placing an order online from the Pizza Hut web site, the service fee has a "clickable" link which causes a small window to pop up that says: "Due to the rising cost of doing business in California, all transactions will be charged a service fee to offset this cost" WTF? So I Googled the service fee and lo and behold, the Southern California Pizza Hut restaurants (and Wing Street restaurants) are all owned by one company based in Orange, CA (click here for the info...I got the link from another internet discussion forum). Because of this ridiculous service fee, I choose not to buy any food from them. If they wanted to, they could roll that charge into their prices and the consumer would never know. If they are trying to make a point with the service fee, they're doing it at the literal expense of their customers. I find it astonishing that they are getting away with this service fee. Has anyone else in Southern California noticed the fee? How do you feel about it?

I'm guessing you're not in the US. I just clicked on the link in my post and it still has that same posted price on the Amazon page for that cookbook ($3.99US). Sorry about that!

One of these cookbooks came in my morning BookBub, and after going down an Amazon rabbit hole I came across the other two. I apologize if any of these cookbooks have been posted before: Charles Phan's "The Slanted Door: Modern Vietnamese Food" Kindle Edition $1.99US Use the "Look Inside" feature so see the list of recipes. There are also 3 recipes from the cookbook on its Amazon info page (as downloadable PDF files). Molly Yeh's "Molly on the Range: Recipes and Stories from An Unlikely Life on a Farm" Kindle Edition $1.99US And priced slightly more than the usual sale-priced cookbook: Dominique Crenn's "Atelier Crenn: Metamorphosis of Taste" Kindle Edition $3.99US Use the "Look Inside" feature so see the list of recipes. However, be forewarned what may sound straight-forward may not be. From the blurb/cookbook description: "Even the dishes that sound familiar, like Fish and Chips, or Broccoli and Beef Tartare, challenge the expected with their surprising components and her signature creative plating." I am a US Prime member and the price you see may vary.

Not sure if there is a more up-to-date discussion of Masterchef, but thought I would post this here. "Christine Hà, the 'MasterChef' winner known as 'The Blind Cook,' is now opening her first restaurant"

"Conagra Brands Announces Recall of a Limited Amount of Hunt’s Tomato Paste Cans Due to Potential Presence of Mold" Having read other articles concerning this same recall, it is a multi-state recall. See the recall listing for the specifics of products codes.

"Leaked documents reveal that McDonald's is about to slash items from its late-night menu" This probably won't impact most customers. Funny how they're not adding anything new...just stripping down the menu for late night crew.

I did suggest he get help from his family when he went to eat one. I guess you could slice off a bit and store it in the fridge and have a little bit each day. But I'm with you...I think my love for them would fade too quickly before it was all consumed.

I would say a big "NO!" to putting salt in/on your soil. It's a sure way to to kill the land.

Lordy...this is never going to stop, is it? "Heinz unveils another unconventional sauce with 'Kranch,' a combination of ketchup and ranch" I believe this version is different than the multi-flavored versions mentioned in the previous post.

A couple of years ago I did buy the gigantic Reese's Peanut Butter cups as a joke Christmas stocking-stuffer for my brother who adores Reese's Peanut Butter cups. They were quite large. I never did find out how he tackled them.

Something new...Reese's Thins. And I just don't get it. Smaller/less of the product... You can see on the linked-to web page how they compare in size to the original peanut butter cup. Of course, they're skewing the visual results by also comparing them to their King Size version and Jumbo versions. Has anyone tried them?

"Butterball LLC Recalls Turkey Products Due to Possible Salmonella Schwarzengrund Contamination" The recall is for Butterball, Kroger & Food Lion ground turkey. See the article for specific product descriptions and codes.

This afternoon I found a cookbook of note at a low price but not the usual sale-price: Gabrielle Hamilton's "Prune: A Cookbook" Kindle Edition $4.99US Use the "Look Inside" feature to see the list of recipes for the first chapter followed by the recipes. I am a US Prime member and the price you see may vary.

Right now, it looks like "vapor-ware" (no pun intended). Anyone have an image of this thing? Yet something else to take up kitchen counter real estate.
-
The current article being mentioned: "Amazon again slashes Whole Foods prices, doubles Prime member weekly deals" But what's the point of price cuts when prices eventually go up again? It's just temporary PR.

Or do the stitches, put some bolts on his neck and call him Frank 'n' Bunny.

I think Carl's Jr has a non-meat patty offering, as well. Not interested in the least for meatless anything.

I recall @maggiethecat once asking in a eG forum whether she should put pockets on an apron she was sewing. I replied with the old axiom: Better to have them and not use them, than to need them and not have them. Yes on pockets.

It's a new month but there weren't, IMHO, many sale-priced cookbooks listed this month on Amazon. Here's the slim pickings I found today: Ruth Reichl's "Garlic and Sapphires: The Secret Life of a Critic in Disguise" Kindle Edition $1.99US Claudia Lucero's "One-Hour Cheese: Ricotta, Mozzarella, Chèvre, Paneer--Even Burrata. Fresh and Simple Cheeses You Can Make in an Hour or Less!" Kindle Edition $1.99US Micol Negrin's "The Best Pasta Sauces: Favorite Regional Italian Recipes: A Cookbook" Kindle Edition $1.99US I am a US Prime member and the price you see may vary.
-
From this morning's BookBub email: Zak Pelaccio's "Eat with Your Hands" Kindle Edition $1.99US Use the "Look Inside Feature" to see the list of recipes. IMHO, a lot of the recipes are...unusual. Plus, you can scroll down to see part of one recipe. I am a US Prime Member and the price you see may vary.

"Love ranch dressing? Kraft Heinz and St. Louis restaurant have five new flavors on the way" The condiments are currently in limited release (see the distribution map in the article). But coming to the ranch-saturated nation soon!
