  1. They almost look like mushrooms popping up from the forest floor (a foraging theme!). Just beautiful.
  2. This has been ongoing and the cases of salmonella poisoning have been increasing. "K2D Foods Recalls Raw Ground Beef Products Due to Possible E. coli O103 Contamination" And possibly related: "Grant Park Packing Recalls Raw Ground Beef Products Due to Possible E. coli O103 Contamination"
  3. "Mint KitKat! Hershey's announces first new permanent flavor in a decade" For me, the mint flavor can make or break a confection/candy. From the shade of green on this KitKat bar, it looks like the green of the Andes mint candy...subtle and nuanced. My favorite mint would be the bold peppermint in the York Peppermint patties. Anyone else have a preference?
  4. From this morning's BookBub email, I am hesitant to post it because it's a "diet" cookbook which I normally don't post. Some of the negative reviews point out that there isn't much revelatory in the recipes or the ideas presented inside: From the Amazon info page for this cookbook... Winner of the 2018 James Beard Foundation Book Awards Winner of the World Gourmand Cookbook Awards Finalist for the IACP Awards Shortlisted for the NCIBA Book Awards, Best Cookbook Deepa Thomas'S "Deepa's Secrets: Slow Carb New Indian Cuisine" Kindle Edition $1.99US Use the "Look Inside" feature to see the list of recipes. I believe this next cookbook has been previously posted but I am posting it again because of the author and his previous cookbooks: Yotam Ottolenghi's "Jerusalem: A Cookbook" Kindle Edition $2.99US I am a US Prime member and the you see may vary.
  5. From today's BookBub email: "The Ultimate Avocado Cookbook: 50 Modern, Stylish & Delicious Recipes to Feed Your Avocado Addiction" Kindle Edition $1.99US You can use the "Look Inside" feature to see the list of recipes. I am a US Prime member and the price you see may vary.
  6. Has anyone purchased beef tallow online? I've been looking at it on Amazon and found some companies brag about no flavoring in the tallow and others brag about the beefy flavor in their product. So it's a little confusing. I hope someone has a trusted online source that's not too pricey.
  7. From this morning's BookBub email: IMHO, generally speaking, this cookbook on tacos is on the same level as any cookbook on grilled cheese sandwiches...really? You need a recipe for this? "The Taco Revolution: Over 100 Traditional and Innovative Recipes to Master America's New Favorite Food" Kindle Edition $1.99US Use the "Look Inside" feature and scroll down to view a couple recipes. I am a US Prime member and the price you see may vary.
  8. I think their scaling back their menus wasn't an all-day thing but rather for late night customers. I imagine it would make it easier for the over-night crews if they didn't have to make complicated or "fussy" menu items.

    Easter Menus

I roasted a small prime rib for Easter thanks to a local grocery store's coupon. If ever I meet Martha Stewart, I will kiss her toes for her prime rib recipe which I found on the internet. While I used my mom's herb rub on the roast, I used Martha's cooking times and the prime rib turned out perfectly. The crust was crunchy and "crackley" and the interior was a nice medium rare.
  10. Thanks. That makes perfect sense.
  11. "Leaked documents show that McDonald's is adding international hits to its American menu, including a Spanish Grand McExtreme Bacon Burger and a Dutch Stroopwafel McFlurry" The article offers a little bit more description of the new items. I am looking forward to the rollout.
  12. The first two have been posted about a year ago or so, but I think they're worth posting again. "The Epicurious Cookbook: More Than 250 of Our Best-Loved Four-Fork Recipes for Weeknights, Weekends & Special Occasions" Kindle Edition $1.99US "Japanese Soul Cooking: Ramen, Tonkatsu, Tempura, and More from the Streets and Kitchens of Tokyo and Beyond" Kindle Edition $1.99US "Southern Italian Farmer's Table: Authentic Recipes and Local Lore from Tuscany to Sicily" Kindle Edition $1.99US No list of recipes, but if you use the "Look Inside" feature you can see some of the recipes. I am a US Prime member and the price you see may vary. Edited to add one more found this afternoon: Betty Rosbottom's "Sunday Brunch: Simple, Delicious Recipes for Leisurely Mornings" Kindle Edition $2.99US Use the "Look Inside" feature to see the list of recipes. Edited a second time to add two more: "Michael Symon's Playing with Fire: BBQ and More from the Grill, Smoker, and Fireplace" Kindle Edition $2.99US Katie Parla and Kristina Gill's "Tasting Rome: Fresh Flavors and Forgotten Recipes from an Ancient City" Kindle Edition $2.99US
  13. Both articles are wonderful. I love the photography on your web site. The only thing missing on your web site is a menu. Is that intentional?
  14. I used to attend a yearly convention in Las Vegas. We would always stop at FatBurgers on the strip (closer to the MGM end of the strip). That was my yearly fix for them which was enough.

    Dinner 2019

You have to be careful with using non-stick sprays. Some contain lecithin which, ironically, under high heat, causes stickiness on non-stick surfaces. My mom had to toss a few small (cheap) non-stick pans because of this.
  16. Regarding strawberry ice cream, I wouldn't recommend putting in any chunks of strawberry. The chunks turn into veritable ice cubes during the freezing process...not fun to eat!
  17. Has anyone seen the new kitchen sprayer technology by Delta called ShieldSpray? Here's a link to their website (click). You don't lose the regular spray function or streaming function of a faucet...it's just a new function in addition to the others. Here's a video showing it in use: So it it a good thing? Or just a gimmick? I like the lack of spray splatter (but, really, no one sprays a plate and make a mess like that unless they've never done dishes before ).
  18. Fatburger is expanding westward. They will be opening one in New Mexico.
  19. A few finds today, the first slightly higher than the usual sale-price: Pierre Hermé's "Macarons" Kindle Edition $3.99US Use the "Look Inside" feature to see the list of recipes. From the Great British Bake Off 2017, "Liam Charles Cheeky Treats: Includes recipes from the new Liam Bakes TV show on Channel 4" Kindle Edition $.99US Use the "Look Inside" feature to see the list of recipes. Lucas Neill's "Jewish Cookbook 365: Take A Tasty Tour Of Jewish With 365 Best Jewish Recipes! (Jewish Holiday Cookbook, Best Jewish Cookbook, Jewish Baking Cookbook, Easy Jewish Cookbook) [Book 1]" Kindle Edition $.99US Use the "Look Inside" feature to see the list of recipes. **NOTE that this book has not been reviewed yet on Amazon. I am a US Prime member and the price you see may vary.
  20. "Milk Bar’s controversial Crack Pie now has a new name" I've only heard about the pie and once thought perhaps I should order one online to see what the fuss was all about. Has anyone tried it? Is this political correctness gone too far? Or is it appropriate? It's just a pie, afterall...what harm is there in that?
  21. From my morning's BookBub email: Chef of the award-winning Atlanta restaurant Miller Union, Steven Satterfield' "Root to Leaf: A Southern Chef Cooks Through the Seasons" Kindle Edition $1.99US Finalist for the 2016 IACP Awards: Julia Child First Book Recipes sorted by seasons. No listing but if you use the "Look Inside" feature and scroll down, you can see some of the recipes. I am a US Prime member and the price you see may vary.
  22. Some cookbooks from the TASTE email I received this afternoon: "The Big Book of Sides: More than 450 Recipes for the Best Vegetables, Grains, Salads, Breads, Sauces, and More: A Cookbook" Kindle Edition $1.99US Use the "Look Inside" feature and scroll down to see a list of recipes (by holidays/events, etc) and scroll further down to see some recipes. Amazon's info page for this cookbook seems to show an oddly spaced list of recipes from the cookbook. Richard Bertinet's award-winning book "Dough: Simple Contemporary Bread" Kindle Edition $.99US There's supposed to be a 30-minute DVD included giving additional guidance. Not sure how that is being handled by Kindle. It may be part of the download which is indicated on the Amazon info page that it may take longer to download due to file size. Anne Byrn's "American Cookie: The Snaps, Drops, Jumbles, Tea Cakes, Bars & Brownies That We Have Loved for Generations" Kindle Edition $2.99US Recipes come with lessons about the history of the cookies. A little pricier than what I normally post... Giada De Laurentiis' "Giada's Italy: My Recipes for La Dolce Vita" Kindle Edition $3.99US And even more pricier, but still a sale-price (this is the first time I've seen any of Ina Garten's cookbooks come down in price): Ina Garten's "Cooking for Jeffrey: A Barefoot Contessa Cookbook" Kindle Edition $4.99US There's a recipe for "Maple-Roasted Carrot Salad" on this cookbook's Amazon info page. I am a US Prime member and the price you see may vary.
  23. I make caramelized onions. My sister-in-law calls them "burnt onions". You say potato...
  24. "Pre-cut melon linked to US salmonella outbreak recalled in Tennessee and Kentucky" The bold is my emphasis. See the article for the listing of the 16 states impacted. And this is a link to the FDA's online article about the recall (click).
  25. I adore a sourdough with a nice tang to it. I can't read the bread threads on eGullet and view all of the pictures without drooling. It's almost Pavlovian. I don't bake but look forward to it when I retire. I am learning from your efforts. Keep posting!
