When I make my Butterball cookies (no turkey is involved...just a pound of butter!), I roll them in powdered sugar and let them sit overnight. The butter also changes this cookie and makes the powdered sugar look sort of patchy. So I just roll them one more time in powdered sugar. and then they're pretty again.

These are all similar to the "Butterball Cookies" recipe i posted in RecipeGullet (click). Walnuts are used instead of pecans (my mom, having grown up in Kansas used black walnuts in anything she could).

My mom would never use the "dry" cycle of the dishwasher. When a load would get to the "dry" mode, she would stop the cycle, pop the door open and would stick a wooden spoon into the door which was almost closed/ajar. It would allow the steam to drift out. The dishes were hot enough that they would "self-dry". The added "plus" was that the door wasn't left all the way open which she considered a kitchen hazard.

During college I had a part time job working at Hickory Farms in a local mall. They sold a Colby Longhorn Cheddar that, at room temperature, tasted like butter. Just amazing. I ended up broadening my cheese-horizons except I won't eat blue cheese, ever. It's mold, people! No good can come from it! I fell in love with Emmentaler Swiss cheese even though it gives me bumps on my tongue (TMI ...fresh pineapple does too) when I eat it.

A quick post as I head out for the Thanksgiving holiday weekend: Named one of the top 20 new cookbooks of 2018 by the Independent "Gunpowder: Explosive flavours from modern India" Kindle Edition $.99US I have no idea what the Independent is or where it is, so take that with a grain of salt. "The Homemade Kitchen: Recipes for Cooking with Pleasure" Kindle Edition $1.99US Lots of positive reviews...but no recipe index. "Holiday Cookies: Showstopping Recipes to Sweeten the Season" Kindle Edition $1.99US Lots of positive reviews...and this one has a recipe index! Ta-da! "The B.T.C. Old-Fashioned Grocery Cookbook: Recipes and Stories from a Southern Revival" Kindle Edition $1.99US No recipe index but using the "Look Inside" feature you can see a few recipes scrolling towards the bottom. Lot of positive reviews. There were a couple other cookbooks that were sale-priced but they either didn't have any reviews or the reviews for the cookbooks were "iffy". They sort of looked like Kindle "singles" or those books where the author copy and pasted recipes from the internet and called it a "book". I always take a look at the author's other cookbooks. If there are a kabillion cookbooks, you may want to stay away from that author. Just my opinion... I am a US Prime member and the price you see may vary.

Reviving this ancient discussion to say that some old favorites are adding some new flavors in 2019: "Rice Krispies' New Flavor Is a Rice Krispie Treat Game-Changer" The three new flavors? Strawberry (Rice) Krispies, Honey Nut Frosted Flakes and Banana Crème Frosted Flakes. I have never consumed anything with an added (fake) banana flavor that I've liked. So the jury is out on that one flavor for me as I await the opinion of the unwashed cereal-eating masses. Is anyone willing to take one for the team and try them when these new flavors debut?

As a former cafeteria dishwasher in my college days, that roasting pan made me cringe. All of the cooks in the cafeteria were ex-US Navy and didn't give one rat's ass to charring/roasting the heck out of their food because they didn't have to clean the pans themselves. I cursed each and everyone of them and thanked God for whoever invented the hot water hose with the forceful spray nozzle that dispensed boiling hot water that helped me clean those burnt-on pans.
