    KFC 2012–

@Shelby I found a similar article with a web site: kfcfirelogs.com When I clicked on a link to buy I got sent to a PayPal interface so I stopped my interaction right then and there. I didn't get far enough to see if they still had any in stock. It's worth a shot, if you're interested.
  2. One from this morning that, I believe, has been on sale before. "At Home with Magnolia: Classic American Recipes from the Founder of Magnolia Bakery" Kindle Edition $2.99US Not just baked goods...this includes other types of recipes. I am a US Prime member and the price you see may vary.
  3. "More Than 29,000 Pounds of Jimmy Dean Sausage Links Recalled Due To Metal Contamination"
  4. One from this afternoon: 2013 Finalist, James Beard Foundation Award, Baking & Dessert, Valerie Gordon's "Sweet" Kindle Edition $2.51US No list of recipes. I am a US Prime member and the price you see may vary.
  5. My apologies. It looked like powdered sugar. Thanks for the correction.
  6. When I make my Butterball cookies (no turkey is involved...just a pound of butter!), I roll them in powdered sugar and let them sit overnight. The butter also changes this cookie and makes the powdered sugar look sort of patchy. So I just roll them one more time in powdered sugar. and then they're pretty again.
  7. These are all similar to the "Butterball Cookies" recipe i posted in RecipeGullet (click). Walnuts are used instead of pecans (my mom, having grown up in Kansas used black walnuts in anything she could).
  8. One found this afternoon: With a foreward by Alice Medrich, Amy's Guittard's "Guittard Chocolate Cookbook: Decadent Recipes from San Francisco's Premium Bean-to-Bar Chocolate Company" Kindle Edition $1.99US Use the "Look Inside" feature to see the list of recipes. I am a US Prime member and the price you see may vary.
  9. It's a new month but surprisingly there aren't a lot of new cookbooks on sale on Amazon. A lot of last month's sale-price cookbooks are still hanging around. Amy Kimoto-Kahn's "Simply Ramen (Simply ...)" Kindle Edition $2.99US Use the "Look Inside" feature to see the list of recipes. The following two cookbooks have been previously on sale...reposting: "Jacques Pépin Heart & Soul" in the Kitchen Kindle Edition $2.99US "Essential Pépin: More Than 700 All-Time Favorites from My Life in Food" Kindle Edition with Audio/Video $2.99US This is supposed to have video/audio supplements, like the print-version. And a new-ish Pépin: Jacques Pépin's "A Grandfather's Lessons: In the Kitchen with Shorey" Kindle Edition $2.99US A how-to aimed at kids, includes recipes. I am a US Prime member and the price you see may vary.
  10. The last of the month's offerings...new cookbooks are likely to begin appearing tomorrow with the advent of December. A New York Times "Notable Book", Aglaia Kremezi's "The Foods of the Greek Islands: Cooking and Culture at the Crossroads of the Mediterranean" Kindle Edition $2.99US No list of recipes that I could see. The book does contain recipes plus info on the islands and the culture. Blogger and author Mimi Thorisson's "French Country Cooking: Meals and Moments from a Village in the Vineyards" Kindle Edition $2.99US No list of recipes. Brit Giuseppe Mascoli's "Franco Manca, Artisan Pizza to Make Perfectly at Home" Kindle Edition $.99US No list of recipes. Mary Lou Heiss's "The Story of Tea: A Cultural History and Drinking Guide" Kindle Edition $1.99US No recipes...a sort of historical guide all about tea. I am a US Prime member and the price you see may vary.
  11. "The first American woman to be awarded three Michelin stars"
  12. I like the thrift store price of $4.99 better than what Amazon priced it.
  13. It seems "Mad Hungry" and "Project Smoke" have also had price increases. And I just don't understand the all-too-brief time on sale. My apologies to all. They were bargain-priced when I originally posted them.
  14. The first two postings have been on sale before (1 year ago and two years ago, respectively): Dorie Greenspan's "Baking: From My Home to Yours" Kindle Edition $2.99US IMHO, it's worth buying just for the "World Peace" cookie recipe. Rose Levy Beranbaum's "The Baking Bible" Kindle Edition $2.99US Use the Look Inside" feature to see the list of recipes. I take full credit for this one being on sale...I just looked at it when it was full-priced and now it's on sale...Go Mojo! Lucinda Scala Quinn's "Mad Hungry Family: 120 Essential Recipes to Feed the Whole Crew" Kindle Edition $2.51US No main list of recipes but the chapters do have their own recipe lists. Use the Look Inside" feature to see this. Steven Raichlen's "Project Smoke: Seven Steps to Smoked Food Nirvana, Plus 100 Irresistible Recipes from Classic (Slam-Dunk Brisket) to Adventurous (Smoked Bacon-Bourbon Apple Crisp)" Kindle Edition $1.99US Named one of the Best Cookbooks of the Year by Food & Wine, The Boston Globe, The Los Angeles Times, The New York Times, The San Francisco Chronicle, USA Today, The Washington Post, and more, Uri Scheft's "Breaking Breads: A New World of Israeli Baking--Flatbreads, Stuffed Breads, Challahs, Cookies, and the Legendary Chocolate Babka" Kindle Edition $2.99US Use the Look Inside" feature to see the list of recipes. Masterchef winner Thomasina Miers's "Mexican Food Made Simple" Kindle Edition $.99US Use the Look Inside" feature to see the list of recipes. British Mexican food? Thomasina Miers's "Wahaca - Mexican Food at Home" Kindle Edition $.99US Use the "Look Inside" feature to the list of recipes. Again, I credit my mojo for this next one being reduced-price...not quite bargain-priced but just above: Scott Conant's "The Scarpetta Cookbook: 125 Recipes from the Acclaimed Restaurant" Kindle Edition $3.99US There are three downloadable recipes from the book on this cookbook's Amazon info page. No list of recipes but by using the "Look Inside" feature and scrolling down, you can see a number of recipes from the cookbook. I am a US Prime member and the price you see may vary.
  15. My mom would never use the "dry" cycle of the dishwasher. When a load would get to the "dry" mode, she would stop the cycle, pop the door open and would stick a wooden spoon into the door which was almost closed/ajar. It would allow the steam to drift out. The dishes were hot enough that they would "self-dry". The added "plus" was that the door wasn't left all the way open which she considered a kitchen hazard.
  16. During college I had a part time job working at Hickory Farms in a local mall. They sold a Colby Longhorn Cheddar that, at room temperature, tasted like butter. Just amazing. I ended up broadening my cheese-horizons except I won't eat blue cheese, ever. It's mold, people! No good can come from it! I fell in love with Emmentaler Swiss cheese even though it gives me bumps on my tongue (TMI ...fresh pineapple does too) when I eat it.
  17. A quick post as I head out for the Thanksgiving holiday weekend: Named one of the top 20 new cookbooks of 2018 by the Independent "Gunpowder: Explosive flavours from modern India" Kindle Edition $.99US I have no idea what the Independent is or where it is, so take that with a grain of salt. "The Homemade Kitchen: Recipes for Cooking with Pleasure" Kindle Edition $1.99US Lots of positive reviews...but no recipe index. "Holiday Cookies: Showstopping Recipes to Sweeten the Season" Kindle Edition $1.99US Lots of positive reviews...and this one has a recipe index! Ta-da! "The B.T.C. Old-Fashioned Grocery Cookbook: Recipes and Stories from a Southern Revival" Kindle Edition $1.99US No recipe index but using the "Look Inside" feature you can see a few recipes scrolling towards the bottom. Lot of positive reviews. There were a couple other cookbooks that were sale-priced but they either didn't have any reviews or the reviews for the cookbooks were "iffy". They sort of looked like Kindle "singles" or those books where the author copy and pasted recipes from the internet and called it a "book". I always take a look at the author's other cookbooks. If there are a kabillion cookbooks, you may want to stay away from that author. Just my opinion... I am a US Prime member and the price you see may vary.
  18. I think the appropriate quote starts with "Casting pearls before swine..." Great find!
  19. Reviving this ancient discussion to say that some old favorites are adding some new flavors in 2019: "Rice Krispies' New Flavor Is a Rice Krispie Treat Game-Changer" The three new flavors? Strawberry (Rice) Krispies, Honey Nut Frosted Flakes and Banana Crème Frosted Flakes. I have never consumed anything with an added (fake) banana flavor that I've liked. So the jury is out on that one flavor for me as I await the opinion of the unwashed cereal-eating masses. Is anyone willing to take one for the team and try them when these new flavors debut?

    Dinner 2018

As a former cafeteria dishwasher in my college days, that roasting pan made me cringe. All of the cooks in the cafeteria were ex-US Navy and didn't give one rat's ass to charring/roasting the heck out of their food because they didn't have to clean the pans themselves. I cursed each and everyone of them and thanked God for whoever invented the hot water hose with the forceful spray nozzle that dispensed boiling hot water that helped me clean those burnt-on pans.
  21. It's an odd day...lots of new sale titles. But whether they're Kindle Single-ish or real cookbooks remains to be seen. It's also odd that so many cookbooks these days don't bother to list their recipes in their indexes. "Simply Delicious Amish Cooking: Recipes and stories from the Amish of Sarasota, Florida (The Pinecraft Collection)" Kindle Edition $.99US Not sure if this is a good Amish cookbook or not but since it's on sale I will post it. It has a lot of good reviews. James Beard Award–winning Linda Gassenheimer's "Dinner in Minutes: Memorable Meals for Busy Cooks" Kindle Edition $1.99US Look, Ma! There's a recipe index here! Use the "Look Inside feature to see the recipes. "The Julia Child of Ireland" Darina Allen's "Grow, Cook, Nourish" Kindle Edition $.99US An odd combo...a gardening book with 500 recipes using what you grow. Using the "Look Inside" feature, scroll down to almost the end to find a very long list of Vegetable Recipes. I would assume there may also be a list for each of the other titles in the Main Index (Fruit, etc). The winner of the first series of The Great British Bake Off in 2010, Edd Kimber's "Patisserie Made Simple: From macaron to millefeuille and more" Kindle Edition $.99US Winner of the third series of The Great British Bake Off John Whaite's "Comfort: food to soothe the soul" Kindle Edition $.99US No recipe index, per se, but if you use the "Look Inside" feature and scroll halfway through you can find some recipe titles, and scroll further down to see a couple of recipes. Nargisse Benkabbou's "Casablanca: My Moroccan Food" Kindle Edition $.99US Rawia Bishara's "Olives, Lemons and Za'atar: The Best Middle Eastern Home Cooking" Kindle Edition $.99US And this was on sale once before but not in Canada. I am re-posting it in case this time (hopefully) it is on sale in Canada: "Fress: Bold, Fresh Flavours from a Jewish Kitchen" Kindle Edition $.99US I am a US Prime member and the price you see may vary.
  22. "Nearly 100,000 pounds of raw ground beef recalled due to E. coli scare"
  23. Two from this afternoon's perusal: Chef Spike Mendelsohn's "The Good Stuff Cookbook: Burgers, Fries, Shakes, Wedges, and More" Kindle Edition $1.99US Use the "Look Inside" feature for the list of recipes. Giuliano Hazan's "Hazan Family Favorites: Beloved Italian Recipes" Kindle Edition $2.99US With a forward from Marcella Hazan. Please read some of the negative reviews to see what detractors are saying about this cookbook. I am a US Prime member and the prices you see may vary.
  24. "Just in time for Thanksgiving: 4 recalled turkey products to avoid" Sorry for the pop-up ad on the web page linked to the article.
  25. From this morning's BookBub email...a cookbook published 8 years ago: A James Beard Award–winning field guide...Mark Bitterman's "Salted: A Manifesto on the World's Most Essential Mineral, with Recipes" Kindle Edition $1.99US I am a US Prime member and the price you see may vary.
