Went to this topic and read most of it going back one day. I'm not cooking anymore at all except for gluten free brownies...bad timing on Ed's part, ending up gluten intolerant at 84...and ice cream. I've been basically bedridden since the summer with no idea when it will end...if at all. Ed is doing all the cooking and food prep now. Life is not fair and that's that. Some of you know my story. Surgery followed by loss of ability to function as I had my entire life. I'll just leave it there as this is both public and about cooking. I miss the cooking. I miss the forum but can't push myself to follow any of it. Some things just don't get better or have solutions. There is still a small ray of hope left but this weekend saw a decrease in that small ray. Sorry all. And thanks for so many good years.

Learning to make ice cream...which I don't care for and working with chocolate and candying orange peels and ginger. But I have to say it was and is mostly the people for me. My very first friends were HeidiH and Andiesenji and Lior who lives in Israel.

Cooking, as other than a loathed chore, came late to me. I recall I was 67 at the time I joined eGullet and the sun began to shine on my cooking life. Loved it for years. Learned so much, tried such new recipes, and made a lot of good friends. Then my health failed this last December and I haven't cooked since. I can't. I have kept the friends thank heavens. My thanks to all of you for your friendship and help. .

No useful thoughts or questions. We bought an air fryer last year and I think we've used it twice. During this time our son has come twice to visit and lend a hand. He uses it constantly.

Section of what store/s please?

Ed shops at No Frills, FreshCo, and Superstore mainly. We have Sobeys but Ed considers them too expensive and the only thing we get there are Poblanos. We got Promise bread there before it was carried at Superstore.

Thanks for the reply. I'm overwhelmed right this minute and not sure about buying M&M stuff. We never have before but I'll send Ed in next trip to get a copy of their products if they have a printed version.

I'll leave out all the drama and just ask for some direction to decent tasting gluten-free products in Ontario. Ed is now gluten ...at least...intolerant.... if not outright unable to tolerate any of it. We found out by accident and now I have to turn my mind (not in the best shape currently ...long story) to finding products he can buy and places to look. We live outside Peterborough and he can go to JoAnne's to start looking. I've not been able to go much of anywhere for a while now and so he's on his own in this one. We have a Main Ingredient store also but we haven't gone there much since our long-time acquaintances sold it. What good products are on the shelves in what stores? He's not much of a food searcher. As my health returns, I'll get back to cooking and baking...I hope...but in the interim, I'm eating almost all of the frozen foods I made some time ago ...and Ed is eating quite a lot of sandwiches on gluten free bread. Promise is the brand he buys at Superstore or Sobeys. All replies gratefully received.

Don't know how I missed this topic. We bought our Breville toaster oven in 2017 and it just died last week. I loved it to pieces. Used it all the time for almost everything under the sun that I could cook. And now we've bought two lemons....money returned now....Brevilles both of which were terrible and didn't match the temperature anywhere...did not heat up, did not hold the heat....useless. And both from the same store...Canadian Tire.... Now what? Help!!!!

Twice in two days Ed brought home a Breville toaster oven, the same model we've had for years since 2017 to be exact. It's not an air fryer or a steam oven....it just is a small oven. Twice in a row, from Canadian Tire, the Brevilles have been basically garbage....the pre-warming bell rang out that the temperature was 390....and both my oven thermometer and my friend's oven thermometer said...I don't think so....it's more like 225 degrees. That's two duds from one store. What should we buy now? I'm desperate without my toaster oven for small cakes and brownies and you name it. That Breville performed like a champion for 7 years. And then, of course, it didn't. Should we buy a Breville from some other store? Assuming we can find another store in our small city which carries them. They certainly are not expensive but they do outcost many other brands, like Black and Decker and also they are big enough to fit a 12" x 9" pan, just what I need...or an 8" cake or a regular pizza.
