Square on Square at 19th and Chestnut is better than mediocre. Penang should deliver from Chinatown, and they're on the web somewhere, although the web menu layout is atrocious.

If you're talking takeout, I'd say that just about any place in Chinatown would let you eat at home. Just call them.

For delivery, our go-to place is Pagoda, next to the Ritz East. They do some pretty good things with noodles, and know from duck. I don't know how wide their delivery range is, though.

A shame about Penang, although I always found that their food didn't translate too well to delivery.

I have seen the Pagoda recommendation before and I once called them to try them, but they will not deliver outside a small radius.

It costs a bit more but DiningIn.Com offers both Sang Kee and Billy Wong. Billy Wong is kinda expensive but worth it to my taste. Some of the staff from Mustard Greens.

The menu prices for DiningIn.Com are usually higher than the restaurant menu pices (maybe not for Sang Kee) and they add a $4-$5 delivery fee. Plus a tip for the driver.

Takes about an hour for delivery.

What restaurant did the above poster refer to when he wrote "Square on Square?" I walked by that address and I did not see any such restaurant.

New #1 in West Philadelphia. =)

So... what is it? And don't you dare say College Buffet...

College Buffet is the biggest travesty to so-called "Chinese Food" ever. For those of you who have had the most unfortunate experience of eating there, you know what I mean.

New #1 is the name. Like "New Number One". Go figure. Cheap and greasy but a step above the standard.

Pagoda does indeed do some wonderful things with noodles. Pity about the delivery radius.

Susannah Foo's. I took my brother and his wife there for lunch, and the service was quite slow. Towards the end of our meal several staffers carrying white cartons went towards the entrance. Our waiter apologized for the slowness in serving us but they'd had a very big take out order. My brother assured him that we hadn't minded in the least, since outside was downtown Philadelphia in August, and we were in no rush to get back into it.

Not at all. College buffet is still serving the same pig-fodder they've been serving for years in the same location.

New Number One is located on 4251 Walnut Street. Close enough to center city to deliver but not something you can walk to if you live in Cc. This ain't no Sang Kee though (who's former chef is now at Pagoda). Cheaper, but still good.

On an unrelated note... Susanna Foo = damn expensive chinese takeout...

Too true. I can only assume that the individuals who ordered it are now under indictment for something or other. Everytime I leave my home to go shopping on the mainland I have to pass the Borgata, but every review I read of Suhlan makes it sound more and more like a place I can't afford.

I spend my days dodging people who decide at the last minute that they'd rather go to Harrahs than Borgata and then decide to go to Trump Marina instead of Harrahs. We now have a Sushi bar down here. Finally when I want to go out for dinner on this island, I have three choices, Pizza, Cheesesteaks, or Sushi.

Elsewheres. I couldn't afford Margate/Longport 28 years ago so I bought a house in a town thats 30 minutes from anywheres unless you want to go to a casino, which I don't since the novelty of losing money wears off very fast for me.

there's a vegetarisn chinese place I think its Cherry Street Vegetarian that does really nice take-out their Vegetabele fried rice made with brown rice is so yummy actaulkly so is the faux lemon chicken veggie dumplings come with great suace

Normally I am not a fan of vegan foods however these are good AND you do not feel nasty and greasy afterwards

Sang Kee is a good bet with the DiningIn.com peopel but I find it rather expensive with thier add-ons, has anyone tried to call teh restaurant directly to see if they will deliver?

Square on Square is on Chestnut btw 19th & 20th? V. good but i never remember to get their menu when I walk by, ususally end up ordering from China Rice House (20th & walnut)becasue you can order things from them with less oil and. But thier dumplings suck....ahh I miss NYC Noodles on 28th Street had the best dumplings outside of china town.

Arey, unless I miss my guess, it sounds like you live in my old stomping grounds of Brigantine. Yeesh, it was tough to find a decent meal there. Hooper's, occasionally Andre's tomato-rosemary pie and delivery from teh Chinese place that is now the sushi place. Otherwise it was AC or cooking for myself. Sorry to hear it hasn't gotten any better with the addition of the Borgata.
