  1. Were these bottles drunk or was it a taste and spit? If it was the former God bless you. Was the order you listed the tasting order? I've found over the years that I drink the best first then go down ( my taste buds get wasted after a few bottles). One other question, was food served or was it about tasting only?
  2. Yes, the franks are beef and pork. The all beef are... all beef . When I think of franks it reminds me of the .99/lb house brand, mystery meat. btw about.com has a good page on Hot dogs.
  3. Rene; I read your review on the internet for Mortons. I wonder if you could discuss their wine list and pricing.Btw Maybe you could suggest to the Record that they include your email address on the internet version. Thanks Steve T.

  5. So what did we learn today? The best hot dogs ( as well as so many other things) in New York is from Nrw Jersey.
  6. I've been to Clifton, Wayne, RT 10, Hackensack and Edison. They all seem to be basically the same. Most have liquor (no big deal you can do just as good in you local store and the wine is basically the cheaper plunk with a few better commercial choices). Ther are slight variations in each store but not enough to make a difference. I've had a card for 5 years or so and I find myself going less and less. I just don't need the giant size of most things. There are bargains on paper goods and certain personnal needs, and many people rave about their meats but I only find myself buying in the summer when i'm doing alot of BBQ. One cut that I rarely see other places is Tri Tip but again I wish it was a smaller package ( I not fond of freezing meat unless I'm going to use it soon. Having said that definatly go Its worth the experience and I think they wiil allow you to go one time without signing up or else borrow a friends card. They don't check them closely. Btw they only take Amex, cash and checks if the name matches the card.
  7. Your logic is faulty. They came in as three people and asked for a table for three. The greeter must have known that. Cooksquest told his companions to order for him. There's no reason to be rude. As far as going to pay the meter after 20 mins maybe cooksquest didn't want to go out in the cold after he sat to eat, besides NYC couldn't survive without the "burbs". You and your like couldn't spend enough to keep it going.
  8. Include me in. I work in the top weiner area of the world (Clifton). We should make a road trip to Wildwood to the Hot Dog House.
  9. Yes you can and no you're not nuts. How about a tapas menu. Some good olives in oil. Some thin sliced Jambon. Maybe a small stew of mussels, clams and sausage. Maybe some fallafel and lamb sausage. yougart with cucumber. Good bread with bean puree. Shrimp in garlic sauce. most of this stuff can be done in advance so you can have time with your man. The list goes on and on. Do some research on the internet and have a great time.
  10. I wonder why new ground must be found. I've always found that his shows give me ideas and ingrediant combinations that haven't occurred to me. My only complaint is that the half hour format makes the show seem very rushed. I've learned over the years not to count anybody's money except my own.
  11. I don't have specific recipe for the sauce you're looking for, but I think I would use your favorite hot sauce instead of fresh chiles. Its easier to controll and there are many fruit based sauces that have sweetness already in them.
  12. So what about QVC, HSN, and Shop NBC. They're 24hr a day infomercials. The guy on ShopNBC who has been hawking the same computer for 2 1/2yrs with $2000 worth (worthless) of software for $1599, amazing. Did you ever notice the count of how many units they've sold? It always seems like 5-10,000. these companies must do more business than Microsoft an GE combined.
  13. Kings Noodles in the Han Ah Ruem shopping center is also worth the trip for fresh made Chinese noodles and rice dishes with interesting sauces (especially brown sauce).
  14. Great pie places should have them set aside to sell as slices. That's the point. tell me where you can get a good fresh slice.
  15. True, but i'm talking about individually purchased slices.
  16. Now that we all know where the great pies are. How about the slices?
  17. Oh yeah... slices are a whole different category, but one that's certainly worth exploring! I don't get slices very often, but I'm sure someone out there must have sampled enough to know some good spots. The horrible little pizzeria where I used to work would only have fresh slices if they sold out of the slice pies that were made in the morning (or sometimes the previous day!). Of course, my boss had absolutely no love for his profession, so I like to think that SOMEwhere there's a pizzeria where they make fresh slice pies as a matter of honor rather than necessity. Double 0 - Should I assume that the places you mentioned earlier in the thread have good slices? If so, then I can go sample them and have a benchmark by which to judge (since I can't get the memory those horrible slices out of my head)! yes, especially Pizza Town USA (RT46 W, Elmwood Park, 201797 6172). Its one of the few places that doesn,t have 10 "oxidized" pies sitting around all day.
  18. Canned Canned Canned (Goya), some of us work here. I agree with Savir, lets have a blind tasting and see who can tell the difference .

Jim don't make yourself crazy. Just do what makes sense. Everything I've read here sounds right. I know that once you pop your "cherry" on this you're going to want to do it over and over. Good luck and lets see some pix from start to finish.
  20. Individual or case sales only?
  21. you're kidding aren't you
  22. 201 (from the BR rest reveiws) I live in NE Bergen and find it hard to go anywhere close to me to get a slice. In my small town there is probably 10 pizzarias and its impossible to get a slice thats anywhere near fresh. I don't need "artisanal" pies, just one thats not totally oxidized from sitting in the racks since 11am when they open. I guess this is a problem everywhere, it just seems extra bad in my neck of the woods. Btw speaking of bad pizza, Dominoes is coming to Westwood soon (thank god I don't live close enough for delivery because sublimation has brainwashed my kids into beleiving that its actually good)
  23. Don't be dissin Passaic Co. Where else can you get the best Texas weiner, a fries all the way and Middle Eastern food for less than the price of a app. in BC. Don't get me started on the pizza situation! edit: finally got to 200.
  24. If its with Ed at Pings (or anywhere else) I'm way in. Two on the weekend.

    Smithfield Ham

My only addition to all these suggestions is to change water a few times during the simmer. The leftovers work great with eggs for breakfast or a ham hash with potatoes.
