Ive had several Malaysian dishes, including Nasi Lemak, Chicken Rendang and Laksa... I never had to add Belacan to any of those. Nasi Lemak was divine, it doesnt look like much on the plate but all mixed together on the fork. omg Havent had anything else from Malaysia except for the fruit salad with belacan, couldnt stomach it. It wasnt the Udang Petis, it was the hard belacan that made it not good for me. But I love Thai and Laotian foods with their fish sauces. It took me a few tries to get over the smell though. Same with Natto, but I just cant get over the essence of Belacan. My analogy on belacan is this... Philly's Franklin Institute had the Mummies exhibit years ago. There was one part of the exhibit that spoke of people thinking since mummies lasted thousands of years that they were a youth elixir and they were actually grinding mummies up into a powder and taking them in pill form or put into beauty creams... http://www.smithsonianmag.com/history/the-gruesome-history-of-eating-corpses-as-medicine-82360284/?no-ist Belacan just puts me in the mind of eating something very very old and forbidden... I hope this doesnt offend anyone

I dont see how this would work...cornmeal tastes like cornbread, not Fritos. I cant eat a corndog and be put in the mind of Fritos chips. There is something else going on with a Frito.that gives it that special taste. Maybe roasted Masa?

However I am confused about something... That syrup is made from CINCHONA BARK, but I bought Wild Quinine Seeds http://www.amazon.com/Everwilde-Farms-Quinine-Native-Wildflower/dp/B00HMEBFSI/ref=sr_1_25?ie=UTF8&qid=1415581237&sr=8-25&keywords=quinine A year ago. The seeds look like Queen Annes Lace, I dont think they have 'bark" so can Quinine come from different sources?

GOOD! I was afraid to make a new post about Tonic Water being medicine so Im glad there is already a Tonic Water topic in existence. With the TONKA bean discussion about them being harmful to certain people with clotting problems and Andie telling us that you shouldnt consume them if you are on blood thinners and aspirin, I wanted to pass along a tip to people who, like me, cannot take Aspirin, Ibuprofen, Alleve etc I cannot take those things. I will spontaneously hemorrhage...and with the research being done on Tylenol being the trigger for autism I definitely dont want to take that either. So I researched alternative anti pyretics, anti inflammatories and pain relievers... The one that works for me is TONIC WATER. I buy the SODA STREAM Diet Tonic Water Syrup and take a spoonful and Voila! pain is all gone... Just FYI YMMV

I recieved the Dulcey Bar today. http://i.imgur.com/mEON7QV.jpg Me and my son tasted it, we both got the butter notes, but I definitely got the shortbread finish that was described on the back of the bar...Very nice.
