  1. Yes, if you scratch a Meyer lemon you'll get a perfume that is distinctly different from a "regular" lemon. It's a bit difficult to describe, but it is less acidic and to me it has a floral component. ← Thank you thank you...I bought a couple to experience the taste and I noticed a perfumy smell on my hands..I was worried that there was something wrong with them..the taste was wonderful though. I feel better now thanks.
  2. Does the meyer lemon peel smell different from other lemons?
  3. I didn't plan on making the bread tonight but having the dough in the fridge got the better of me...loved it. Pizza tomorrow.
  4. Now that I've seen your cook book collection I don't think I have too many books at all! In fact I need to get more Thanks for all the pics..especially the snowy ones..LOVE THE SNOW! Your son is too adorable..I love to see kids in the kitchen and he seems to really like baking. Thanks for sharing your week with us...I really enjoyed it. It did go too fast mind you!

    Dinner! 2008

Do you mean the stuffed baked ones that I served with the burgers or the ones with Christmas dinner that were in the crock pot? Kim ← Both..
  7. Try cooking them 3/4 of the way..then cool and wrap and freeze. I do that with fougasse. When I'm ready for them I bake from frozen. Works well. I don't know why it wouldn't work with baguettes. Maybe you could experiment with one baguette and let us know what happens! Have you tried Vienna bread yet? I really like it.

    I second that request!
  9. [ demiglace - Scotch chips - what a concept! Did you invent these? Hi Kim Shook...no I didn't invent these..they have been in the family for a couple of generations now. Loved your pics..that red striped plate is gorgeous..I was taken by the "Silly but traditional" Christmas tree..I think I'll do something like that next year..very cute and tasty I'm sure! Thanks for sharing.
  10. I want animals to have happy little lives before I eat them. Is that too much to ask? No it's not. I think it's our responsibility. I hope the big food fight gets aired on this side of the pond.
  11. Thanks for the link JudyB..very interesting. I hope there is a thread somewhere about this show. The "Big Food Fight" is a loosely connected series of programmes on Channel 4 (in the UK) challenging the way in which we eat and our food is produced. The Channel 4 website here will give you an idea of the programmes they are showing. The programmes with Jamie Oliver and Hugh Fearnley-Wittingstall have been concentrating on trying to stop people buying "battery" chickens due to the conditions in which they are kept. ←
  12. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1-BEVskEgBU&feature=related Jamie with Gordon and Hugh...so funny. Don't know what the big food fight is about but this is Jamie related.
  13. I was hoping someone would ask about the container. Its a lock and lock container that I bought on Clement Street in San Francisco. Target has a good selection of Lock and Lock's too and you might be able to find the divided container there. QVC also has a great selection, a lot of different items you wont find in the stores. I have a great set of 3 round bowls that nest that I like to use when I make salad for Robin. ← Hey Cali..are those the Starfrit ones? Your lunches look great by the way!
  14. Thanks for the link Pearl. Wonder if they survived the nightmare on Cambie. Thanks to you too Shelby..it looks like cajungrocer even delivers up here!
  15. Yes they do. I've bought andouille at Oyama. Can't say if it has an authentic flavour or not, but it's pretty darn tasty in my Jambalaya :-) ← Thanks I'll get some next time I'm on GI.
  16. I'm interested in cooking some southern dishes but haven't done any yet. Don't know of any places to get creole food in the Vanc. area..are there any? I've never been down to New Orleans and friends that have weren't interested in the food..just the party! I wonder if Oyama sells andouille sausage..hmm

  18. They look good Peter the eater..but I'm not totally convinced. Weren't we taught that food acts as a sponge when placed in room temp oil? Were they greasier than the conventional method?
  19. And just what are "scotch chips"? I think I need some! They look just like pancakes cooked with oil instead of butter--I love using oil to cook my pancakes! ← Oh so very close..a thin slice of potato is dipped in the pancake batter and fried..nice dipped in ketchup or something spicy.
