Tonight's premiere episode gets a one-line mention in Kevin McDonough's "Switching Channels" column (today's Delaware County Daily Times and presumably syndicated in other papers elsewhere).

Says Chris "travels in search of obscure and unforgettable eateries".

Can't wait to see whether he considers his Philly choices as meeting both criteria.

Boy I just got lucky. I was channel surfing and found Alton Brown doing a Good Eats on grits/polenta, and a commercial for the premiere of Hungry Detective came on.

Late notice, but it's on at 10:30. I have the dvr programmed for every Tuesday at 10:30. Then I dub it to DVD blanks.

I see I won't have to wait too long to get an answer to my question above.

Next week's episode is the Philly one.

Stupid me, I turned on a Discovery Times documentary program at 10 and blew right through the premiere. I'll have to set the DVR for about two hours from now to tape the repeat.

That show was awesome. I had a whole group of people over to watch it, and we're all going to that BBQ place and gettin those ribs.

The chinese place is awesome...what we couldnt say is that the dad is also the exec at MGM's chinese restaurant....and I get my shirts from highseastrading.com

I loved the show, my favorite part was when the cop sort of sneezed while eating his fried twinkie. Afterwards he looked like he just got back from a crazy party in the 80's :blink:

so, was everything you ate delicious? Which dish was your favorite? The thai lobster dish looked absolutely beautiful.

Mr. tejon and I just watched and loved it. I loved that you took everything off the main strip and showed that there is more to Las Vegas than all the theme casinos and glitz.

Also loved the shirt! Nice to see that they let you be yourself, down to crazy colorful shirts :smile:. Can't wait to see your next show.

We, too, enjoyed the pilot. Nice to see genuine enthusiasm versus, well, less-than-genuine enthusiasm (not to mention names). I think the most telling thing of all is that you made us really wanted to try most of the food (fried twinkies will never pass my lips, although I too enjoyed the Serpico moment). All of it looked really delectable - even though my KC self is dubious about steaming ribs :hmmm:. And lobster chicken-fried in butter. OMG. I expected to have dreams about that. That is outrageous.

I do wish you hadn't told Zeemanb where to get shirts like yours, though :wink:.

I just got to work at the police station and checked in to the thread....now I have a big smile on my face!!! Thank you so much for all the support....it was really nerve wracking the last few months...I really just wanted to make a show that people liked and makes people hungry, and at the same time gives exposure to those who need it like chefs and little hole in the walls....

What did you guys think of the 5 restaurants as opposed to only 3 ?

Five was good, but a couple did seem to get kind of squeezed in at the end. It was all still fun! It was great to finally be able to see the show! Now I want to go to Vegas! BTW, Chris-- did you get any impression that any dishes were 'played up' for the camera, or did they all look like what the places normally serve? And that first place in the Super 8-- was that right across a street from the MGM Grand? That BBQ combo looked great, and chicken fried lobster made my jaw drop! And I loved your 'dress-up' shirt for Binion's! I'm glad to know that the lobster was cooked properly. Can't wait to see more episodes!

The food was as it was served....none of those guys have food stylists...we make sure the plates are clean and the food is fresh for camera, but thats it....I loved the thai lobster presentation....The last 2 segments are the shortest aned thats due to the times we are given per segment....the bbq is behind Bally's....on Koval...

Congrats on the debut!! Having toted along behind you for an afternoon while you were in Philly (which totally sucked the glamour out of filming forever), it's nice to see the final edited product come out so well. The Vegas show was great and I hope the Food Network website will keep your page up to date as the episodes air so we can all use them as a resource. I totally want to check out that BBQ joint and the Thai lobster when I finally make it to Vegas!

Very psyched for the Philly show next week! Lots of my favorite places and people too!

You have great stage presence, Chris. (I watched the show this morning before heading off to jury duty. The good news: I'll enjoy 10% off on lunch at the Reading Terminal Market for the next few days. The bad news: That's because I got empaneled for a criminal trial. The other good news: It's a small-potatoes case and I won't be sequestered. The other bad news: That means I don't get a quasi-vacation in a nice Center City hotel. :wink: ) Not to mention the perfect personality and delivery for this job.

Love the emphasis on off-the-beaten-path, everyday-people's-favorite places. But I do have a question about the steakhouse where you concluded your trip: Why was it so empty? The other places you visited all had decent patronage. I'd worry about a place that ran counter to that tendency, no matter how good or locally authentic your sources said it was.

Had I been the star at that segment, I'm afraid I would have never made it past the pilot stage, as I would probably have said something like, "These are great ribs, but they aren't barbecue. Here, let me show you how it's done. Got an enclosed grill, an afternoon and a case of beer?"

But the chicken-fried lobster and the deep-fried Twinkies--talk about throwing it in your face!--more than made up for that lapse.

I await with bated breath next Tuesday's episode. Maybe I'll have a few people over too. Cheesesteaks, of course, to celebrate Katie's and my cameo.

As for the shirts: I think there's a chi-chi Best-of-Philly men's wear shop somewhere here in the gayborhood that carries them or something awfully similar.

I enjoyed the show, too, largely because it was on the fast-paced side and struck a nice balance between being serious enough to be interesting without being so overly serious as to kill the fun. Chris, your enthusiam was great, and after watching your show, I was craving a deep-fried twinkie and some good Chinese food. To me, that's the sign of a good show, when I wish I had been part of the action.

Bravo Chris! Truly enjoyed the show! Your enthusiasm and presence is refreshing and so

genuine! I remember Joyful House being featured in another FoodNetwork Special aired

last January "After Midnight Las Vegas," Kerry Simon took the program host there after

his restaurant in the Hard Rock Hotel closed down for the night.
