ok, i've already had my fill of overly watery iced coffee. does anyone make a good one that actually keeps its coffee flavor even after some melting? center city would be a plus as this is generally a lunch time thing for me. bonte does fine and of course there is la colombe, any others? had terrible watery experiences this week from dibruno actually (surprised) as well as passeros. any recommendations are appreciated!

agree. ca phe sua da at any vietnamese joint. but you must like it sweet and creamy to appreciate this. good luck finding some!

i don't know if this is still the case since i'm not there much anymore, but when i used to get it at la cigale, they'd basically pour about a triple shot worth of espresso into a cup with ice for an iced coffee.

La Colombe on 19th also uses espresso for iced coffee. On the contrary, it was too strong for me.

We use stronger brewed coffee, I drink it fast after a few shakes to super chill it!

:wub: I hate to admit it, but Starbucks has my favorite - the iced Americano. It has great coffee flavor and isn't at all watery. Perfect with a little half and half. It's my go-to summer iced coffee.

The vietnames suggestion is good.

My Italian heritage prevents myself to order a Dunkin' Donuts "coolata" although I've heard they're ok.

(culata is not a word to be used in polite company)

It is 9:23 am and I just poured my first glass of iced coffee for today. It is made from coffee that i brewed yesterday and let chill overnight in the fridge. THat way, I do not get a watered down version, the ice stays much longer and the beverage is cold and full of that coffee flavor. If someone has a better way, I would be glad to learn.

edited to add that the 13th Street Coffee House in Omaha made a very good iced latte when I was visiting up there. It was not watery at all and was cold.

This would be my solution, too; make the coffee at night, refrigerate it, then transport it (or keep it at hand, if you're not running off to work) in a thermos (one of those seemingly forgotten or under-used gadgets that I still adore.) I make mine with extra-strong coffee, sugar, and evaporated milk (my very Southern grandmother made it this way, and nothing else quite tastes right since, to me!) If you keep it in the thermos, and don't drink it out of a glass the size of a Big Gulp, you will have nice, cold iced coffee with no wateriness at all.

If you have to buy it, can you ask for it without ice, then put it into your own thermos?

And here I was thinking that everyone made iced coffee that way. That's certainly what I do. The only thing you have to remember is to sweeten it after it's brewed and still hot. Sugar won't dissolve much in cold coffee, especially if you use a big grain sugar like turbinado. You could cook up some simple syrup and keep it handy if you drink iced coffee every day. A little chocolate syrup makes it good, too.
