I would say Strip House has the #2 steak in the State, 2nd to River Palm Terrace, by a fine margin. The steak at SH is unique, with some kind of salt concoction for flavoring, but it's still excellent.

The Brickhouse. I think it is in Hawthorne....

Is Brickhouse an Inn? Are they noted for steak? I can't seem to find anything on them.

the Brick House is in wycoff. here's a short thread.

from what i understand, it's old-school and expensive. not sure if they're serving prime meat. although if they're not, they should be.

Mignon supposedly wet ages their meat so I'm not hyped about going there.

everything i've seen suggests that their steaks are dry-aged for about 28 days.

The chef from The Park opened Carlos and Luigi Steakhouse, 205 Market St, Elmwood Park (201-703-5510) this winter. Was there once and didn't think the food was as good as The Park.

Thank you! I stand corrected, they do have dry aged beef!

I even contacted them, questioned their host, he read off the menu and, yes, they do serve dry aged beef (so they say). And get this, their 40oz porterhouse for two is only $45. Either way, $45 is an absolute steal!

Dry aged beef and BYOB ... what could be better!

F&J's once again gets delayed; mignon is next on the steak agenda.

Thanks again.

I really love the Franklin Steakhouse in Nutley!!!

for what it is, it's fine. but they're serving choice beef in a pub atmosphere with no wines to speak of. in my mind, they just can't compete with actual steakhouses that are serving prime aged beef with professional service and a wine list to match. and BYO is nice too.

their strong suit is the burger, which is a much better burger than their steak is steak. in fact, it's one of the best burgers in northern jersey i think.

I had a rib eye at the River Palm Terrace about a month ago which ranked with the best steaks I have eaten at either Peter Luger or Sparks. Other times I have been to the RPT and been dissapointed, how much of this do you blame on the restaurant and how much on the cow? I have heard that River Palm opened a location at the Sheridan Crossroads but I have not confirmed this as true. Anyone have info?

Nope, only the same three exist: Edgewater, Fair Lawn and Mahwah. I really wish they'd open another closer to Monmouth

I agree with you on their burgers, but also think they serve up a quality steak...always seems to be cooked and seasoned just right, I concur that while it may not be at the level of some of the higher end/fancier places mentioned here or certainly some of the top NYC steakhouses, for a local tavern/pub this is one of the best steaks I have had...not to mention the bartenders

but they're not serving aged prime meat. it simply can't compete on the level of the high-end places, especially when one factors in atmosphere/service/wine list/etc. that's my only point here. you know how much i love that place (and the bartenders :cough: )

hey, look, as far as pub-style places serving steaks, they're no doubt at the top of the heap. they are much better than arthur's, alexus, et al.

Is Frankie & Johnnie's really a "Luger's in Jersey?" What's their best side and what's their best appetizer? Is there a NJ steakhouse (or anyplace for that matter) that has luger-style bacon strips?

:D

i've never been to luger's. but i don't think F&J is getting the same quality meat as luger's.

i haven't been to F&J in over a year, but i used to get shrimp cocktail, as i'm a shrimp cocktail whore.

Best side is Lyonnaise potatoes...haven't been to F&J since we left Hoboken 2 years ago. Need to find a babysitter so I can get a fix. As much as I love F&J, they are in no way "Lugers in NJ"

They don't have the same quality of meat, and besides that, a good portion of people actually go there and do not order steak. I do prefer their sauce to PL however (not as sweet)

Get your bitch ass back in the kitchen and make me some pie!!!

Why would you ruin steak with sauce? I do however relish it as a dipping sauce for a buttered onion roll..mmmmmm

Speaking of sauce and Hoboken though, I must say how much I miss Hoboken Eddies late great restaurant. Best dry rub ribs anywhere

Say it ain't so. Despite what Rosie says this is a must have experience. And Fat Guy says that its great at lunch. Maybe another lunch with you, me and the Rock is in order.

steakas, if you plan on going to F&J, why don't you rent On the Waterfront first. in addition to being a good movie, there's a scene filmed at F&J. it's kinda neat to see how much the room hasn't changed all that much in 50 years.

Hellooooooooooooooooooooooo.......

If you jack-offs are having steaks at Luger's, I BETTER have an invite. Besides, ask The Rock about our little ferry ride past Luger's and our conversation that Sparks is so much better.

Lou, sorry for the oversite. Of course you would catch the invite. And yes, Sparks is in someways better (wine list, wine value, varied menu, location and sometimes a better steak) but there's something about PL, at least for my money, and now you can have bacon!

Suzi, you and the hawks (and the widening gyre for that matter) are always welcome at my table.
