Yes, these are the avocados sold in a mesh bag, at $3.99 for something like 6 avos.

I was getting a little tired of paying $2 (and up) for a single 4225 sized avocado.  Especially if I've picked one that doesn't ripen properly, or that I forget about and have to throw away.

So, why not...

They're really tasty, and if all 6 are good, then I think it's a better deal than 2 at $4.00.  (I actually tried to do some research on size and PLU codes, etc. etc. (and think I've done so in the past), but I got tired).  Those are peeled, large eggs for comparison's sake.

I often prefer those smaller ones! That size just makes more sense sometimes. Only problem I have with the bagged ones is that they seem to ripen all at once and therefore need to be eaten pretty much all at once.  🙂

I should probably purée and freeze a few when I buy them that way.

Cooking mostly for 2 and trying to not overeat, I too prefer the small 'cados.

Not just them, either.  Yesterday I had a choice between 5-pound bags of Cosmic Crisp apples:  one had fruit the size of softballs, the other the size of tennis balls.  Since I eat them whole (and with smoothies), I got the small'uns.  They keep a lot longer when you keep them whole.

Those are the avocados I get here and they're 5-6 in a mesh bag.

The thing about avocados is that they mature on the tree however only ripen after being harvested and at room temp. So they're shipped refrigerated, and in my experience usually rock hard, so just put them in the frig crisper to impede the ripening.

Take one out when you plan on having one to ripen (may take a day or three).

I’ve also noticed that the pit to fruit ratio tends to be better, so I agree that overall, they are a good value. Plus I haven’t gotten as many rotten ones as the single large ones.

the big ones don't fit on a toasted muffin . . .

I find it curious that supermarkets - despite the well documented trend in aging and 1/2 person households - continue to carry 'pretty much nothing but mega-size' stuff.

there's no economy in buying in bulk and throwing some/most away . . .

oh - wait - the squirrels have registered their disagreement . . . .
