Salt pepper and a bit of onion soup mix - about 3/4 cup water - 65 minutes high pressure. Texture was nice. Still able to cut it. Apparently 10 minutes more would have made it more shredded. I was going for the texture of the stuff you get sliced in a Jewish deli.

Stopped at the grocery store this am - good price on centre cut beef ribs. Foil in CSO at 250 steam bake for around 4 hours, then some kalbi sauce brushed on and a few minutes convection at 450.

I bet if you fed your patients this stuff instead of the gruel hospitals pass off as food these days, recovery times would be halved!!

First loaf got ignored in the CSO and got a little browner than I like (I usually tent with a bit of foil) - but I dropped it at the desk and 30 minutes later there was a heel left!

 

Was not expecting to work 24 hours today - but the weather is so bad that I would get stuck in town overnight so I figured I might as well stay. Saves the other doc the nasty drive in and me the nasty drive home. She's the coroner on call tonight so she'll likely have enough work to keep her busy!

 

Leftovers for lunch - I had some red thai curry left that I had made the other day - don't think I had time to post it when I was here last.

Since I'm stuck here for the night and the weather seems to be keeping people away - I asked our volunteer to go out to the grocery store and grab me a container of heavy cream so I could make @tikidoc's cream scones. They set upon them like a pack of hounds. Managed to catch a picture before the rest disappeared.

Made a couple of loaves of buttermilk quick bread (actually yogurt quick bread) - used freeze dried dill and those deep fried onion bits that usually come in a can - but these ones came in a big bag from Costco.

For lunch I made kimchi pancakes - the pancake mix that I had at home had a best by date in 2013 - so I made some of my own with flour, cornstarch and a few other things. Made about 5 pancakes - which were a hit with the nurses.

I have been wondering, is the staff break room near the hospital's kitchen (or whatever the house of horrors is called where they prep patient meals)...I am thinking of the unsavory scent of disinfectant mingling with your delicious cooking smells and just can't envision how this works?

Couple of loaves of Jewish Corn Rye - brought the dough along in the bannetons this am.

Found some inexpensive chicken marylands the other day - cooked them on the BGE and tucked them in the fridge. Today they made some excellent soup in the instant pot.

Forgot to take a picture initially - but I'm fiddling with some recipes for sticky toffee pudding for inclusion in a kids cookery book. Had I remembered to bring vanilla with me to work - it think this recipe would be the winner.

Yesterday was a shit show at work. I managed a few short minutes in the morning to mix up a batch of buttermilk quick bread, cheddar and chive - the loaf disappeared in about 2 minutes with the help of 8 burly cops - didn't get a picture before it was gone. But did make one little pyrex cup full and that was still in the call room for a picture. The sergeant is a bit of a baker - she requested the recipe while we were struggling with the difficult individual they had brought in.

The leftover chicken soup from the other day got some lentils, sausages and spinach added to it.

That looks good. I need to try a semolina bread one of these days. I love it for pizza dough, not sure why I haven't connected that to bread.

It's kinda like wrestling a gorilla... you don't stop when you're tired, you stop when the gorilla is tired.
